From BBC News: ITV's former executive chairman Michael Grade told the BBC: "They're going to lose a very popular show, probably, it would be very difficult to bring it back now, unless there were some reasons we don't know that means they're completely exonerated.”

Given the growing pressure on ITV (including from some MPs), I don’t see how the show can really return. It would be terrible for ITV’s image, and advertisers might not even want to be associated with the show should it return. If the show is axed, I can’t see Kyle’s documentary strand returning or him presenting on GMB in the near future.

Only 430,000 for Real Deal in the Kyle slot yesterday. Kyle got 1m on Friday. This is going to be a headache for ITV in so many ways.

Dickinson’s Real Deal is a strange program to use as a replacement, so I’m not surprised it rated poorly. The target audiences are totally different, and it’s already on at 3pm. You’d have thought they’d have a better solution in place by next week.

What about Tenable? Between 9:25-10:30?

How about extending Lorraine?

A potentially very damming article from a former runner on the show...

Presumably being the BBC they'll have double checked that this anonymous former employee actually worked on the programme, unlike some tabloids who might not have properly checked before publishing.

I don't see them putting a gameshow in that slot, if anything it'd be something in a similar vein, I suggested before a medical series with a TV doctor which might be able to hang onto the Kyle viewers.

I can see Judge Rinder turning up next week. Or even a promotion of the Ellen Degeneras show from ITV2.

BBC1 never puts it's antique programs at 9.15 either.

Ellen would rate very badly on ITV especially coming after Lorraine;

I wonder if BBC One or Channel 5 has seen a boost with no Kyle on the air

Can't see what BBC One airs at 9.15 being any more attractive the missing Kyle viewers than Real Deal.

If it was proven that the events of the show led to the passing of the person concerned then it should be cancelled then and there.

However if it was not proven that the events of the show led to the passing of the person then the show should return but with a lot and I mean a lot of changes.

It's a difficult one, but you cannot always predict how people will respond to things, and therefore, nothing can ever be truly watertight.

Take a gameshow, for example. Contestant goes on, he's in a lot of debt and needs to win big. He pushes it and pushes it and ends up losing. He leaves with nothing, having pinned all his hopes on winning big and finally being debt-free.. He's crushed and decides that this was his one big chance and he blew it. He can't see a way out, and takes his own life.

Yes, it's a completely made-up example, but it COULD happen, just as a guest on The Jeremy Kyle Show COULD take their own life, having allegedly been "proven" to be a cheat on television.

Is the gameshow to blame because they shouldn't have danged the carrot of wealth in front of him, prompting him to play on? Should it be taken off air?

I think you’re missing the big distinction between a gameshow and Kyle’s show. The whole format and success of the show is based around humiliating and shaming people. It’s a logical conclusion that this kind of attitude is going to have ill-effects of the mental health of some of those who participate and if some of these reports are to be believed coerced into participating. The gameshow hasn’t set out to break someone down and humiliate them.

The truth is Jeremy Kyle bullies people on that show in a way in which wouldn’t be deemed acceptable in any other walk of life.

Quote:
Producers and researchers would be talking to guests for hours before the show began, passing information across. I heard them saying things like, "You won't believe what I just heard your fella say to me just now".

On one occasion I was in the dressing room and overheard a producer tell a guest that their girlfriend had called them a "slag". This was normal - you didn't even question it.

Quote:
Jeremy once called a guest I was looking after a liar because he failed a lie-detector test.

The guest stormed off stage, pushed me over and the producer ran after them, screaming at them to come back.

I remember them saying something along the lines of… "You can't go. Have you forgotten what she said about you? Get back in there and tell her what you think!"

This conversation has moved on from the initial story. Can open, worms everywhere. I can't see how there's any hope of return for the programme.

In terms of a replacement, I think they will stick to pre-recorded programming such as a gameshow/factual because another magazine programme (or extension of GMB/Lorraine) is too similar to This Morning which immediately follows.

If they're looking to keep the same audience profile, a constructed reality format like TOWIE might work.

Or - and hear me out because this is currently enjoying a resurgence on social media - repeats of Airline. All the drama and tantrums you'd expect from Jeremy Kyle but safely tucked away in 2001.

Personally I think the show had run its course to be honest. It became a copy of the Jerry Springer show.
