Commissions for their own channels.

For example Broadchurch and Midsomer Murders (branded as Inspector Barnaby) are shown on France Televisions.

Yep - both indies. (Kudos and Bentley Productions respectively). So not shows ITV produce at all.

AIUI the indies retain international sales and home video rights in many situations. Kudos, who make Broadchurch, are part of the Shine Group, and Shine distribute Broadchurch internationally I believe. So not really a huge amount to do with ITV internationally - other than the fact that ITV commissioned the show for UK broadcast (and backed it in the first place).

That may be an avenue that is being explored - nothing to stop Clarkson/Hammond/May/Wilman forming their own indie to make a new car series, which ITV commission (or acquire) for UK broadcast, and other distributors pick up for overseas broadcast (or streaming...)

Trailers for Top Gear "Coming Soon" now showing. Presumably they've found a way to package up the remaining material that had been shot for the series into something fit for broadcast.

Richard Hammond and James May were reported to have filmed the studio based inserts for the promoted show a couple of weeks ago, it was always reported that the remaining films with Clarkson would be shown regardless.

With an audience in the hangar or are they presented as a pair?

Apparently Clarkson went back to record voice overs for the films, under the terms of his old contact. Which seems strange in the circumstances, but I guess it highlights the difference between "contact not renewed" and "sacked".

There were photos taken of the hangar set being dismantled soon after Clarkson was sacked. So not sure if they would have rebuilt them just for this. It'll be interesting to see how they handle this on-screen. They've surely got to reference Clarkson! Even take the p*ss out of him for screwing up. Who knows!

There was some time talking about Top Gear on this weeks Points of View with BBC Two controller, fairly evasive overall but perhaps worth a look.

Hmm..
Can't help thinking sticking it on now is a mistake.

Up against the Christmas special of Call The Midwife on Christmas/Boxing Night - now, that would be better.

The first Segment is crap.

Disagree. Think it was a brilliant final episode, and maybe foreshadowing what may come in the new show - lose the news and the reasonably priced car... It was 75 minutes of three blokes messing about. And that's how it should be remembered.
