Slightly tangential but I doubt that Channel 4 putting the new series of For the love of cars on a Sunday night at 8pm is in any way a coincidence.

They ran the first series exactly a year ago, also at 8pm Sunday. I suspect arranged in both cases to 'dovetail' with TG's series timing , regardless of the recent Clarkson incident

Further to my previous post, The Guardian suggests that, aside from the NetFlix idea, itv is the most likely destination in terms of UK broadcasters for Jeremy Clarkson et al. All very predictable traffic: BBC loses big stars; itv swoops in.

Itv would be better off staying well clear. It does this every time and loses out. If not maybe we will get Richard Hammond 5 o'clock show back.

Think the issue for Hammond and May is that they both have non-Top Gear roles at the BBC which allow them to be more than just Jeremy's sidekicks.

Suspect both will want to continue with these even if they take the car show elsewhere. I'm sure they'll want non-exclusive deals to allow this to continue, and will probably get them. My gut feeling is that moving to Netflix (or Amazon) is a shrewder move. It won't be seen as repeating the same thing on a different channel, and instead they'll be doing something different.

I think ITV are the ones not to have ruled out taking on Clarkson - both Sky and C4 did quite swiftly. I just think it's a huge shame that May and Hammond have so little respect for the rest of the people they work with - indeed in my view they're now coming out of it worse than Clarkson himself.

Why do you say that? Is it because of the statements saying they don't think Top Gear will work with a parachuted in Clarkson replacement? Because if so, I completely agree with them, Top Gear can only continue with a change of style and a completely new line up. To do otherwise would just smack of desperation by the BBC.

No, that comment made sense but it's pretty obvious they have more loyalty to Clarkson than they do to Top Gear and it's staff.

I still don't understand what makes you say this.

I don't get that at all. I think that, along with many people, Hammond and May don't believe that dropping in a replacement for Clarkson to work alongside them will work. They are out of contract. Not returning to the show isn't showing a lack of loyalty or a lack of respect, it is accepting that the new Top Gear will need to be different and work without them.

Plus, who is to say that discussions aren't taking place about employing other people from the Top Gear production team on any new show they decide to make. That could also be described as loyalty...

As I suggested on 25th April - how very, very predictable. Top Gear moves to itv.

Well it's not really going to be Top Gear, and talking to ITV doesn't mean they're definitely moving to ITV.
