I'm sorry but some of the comments weren't far off that mark actually. I don't doubt anyone would mind people sharing the fact they didn't like him, although I'm not sure a thread about his death is quite the place for it.
But some of the things said were quite disgusting, actually and were not about debate at all, and as I said not the kind of way most people would speak to someone.

There's always a level of belligerence and combativeness on forums that one wouldn't see in face to face communication. Its the nature of an anonymous remote medium (for those who choose not to post their name). I believe you are only pointing out that obvious fact at this time to strengthen your argument.
I'm very sorry for those who feel a personal loss due to the passing of this individual, but an open internet board with hundreds of members is not the place to seek solace.
All things considered it seems odd to ask the membership to refrain from expression when those affected could choose not to read at this time.
Individually offensive/obscene/defamatory remarks should be dealt with by the moderators individually - as they are in any thread. Others who express honest negativity should be allowed to continue based on how they feel - whether its an informed opinion or not. Welcome to the internet.
I'm sincerely not trying to flame this thread or upset anyone, but I think it is important that this point of order is made.
No one is saying people can't have an opinion, but I think saying that you don't like him and, the important part - why - is usually constructive debate.
Saying things such as:
Quote:
Yes, very happy at the news...
and
Quote:
May his arseholiness and withered left hand burn in the hell
Some how don't seem to be appropriate in any thread at any time really, maybe manners isn't something that is required here, but I don't see why people should have a free run to just be rude for the sake of it, sorry, some members.

Specifically, you said,

A thread about Mr Beadle is the place for
all
comments about Mr Beadle.
Your comment suggests you believe otherwise - and that is my bone of contention.
Whilst you are entitled to your personal opinion on that particular matter, I have to totally and absolutely disagree.
I think this is, probably, where the difference came in between the personal individual and the "professional" individual whilst the microphones or cameras were turned off.
The quote marks around that word are, I'm afraid to say, deliberate.
Well I would have thought a bit of taste may be in order, certainly if I didn't like someone famous who's just died I wouldn't slate them or their work in a thread about their death.
I just wouldn't say anything on it. But fair enough if people have the urge to say they didn't like either then yes, so be it. But I do think in such a way that is a bit more tactful than some of the earlier posts.

Then you and I share more in common than I thought. I'm glad we cleared this up.
... and to think that on DS, when I sarcastically said "oh, what a shame" when the genuinely belligerent and nasty piece of work Ian Smith died recently I was rounded upon as if I'd questioned The Queen's parentage.
I think people need to get a sense of perspective. Even if Beadle wasn't especially nice (and I have no idea if he was or was not), he surely did nothing to warrant some of the comments on here did he?
