Jeremy Beadle was a 'prankster' but also an entertainer and also did work and raise monies for charities.

He also presented the factual series "Eureka" for BBC2 in the early 1980s, plus a daily "on this day in history" slot on TV-am around the same time. So there was more to him than just being a practical joker.

News 24 have just said he's known for shows "like "Beadle's About" and the hidden camera show "You've Been Framed"." Idiots.

Very sad loss, he'll be well missed. Sad

Earlier they said "..programmes attracting audiences of up to 15 million pounds." Shocked

Does anybody know when this news broke? It looks as if it was around 8pm but the Tiscali homepage broke the news at 7:35... Confused

I'd suggest going back to page 2 of this thread, it seems the news broke just before 7pm.

ITV evening news presented it as a "Breaking News" at 6:55pm then quickly closed the programme.

BBC London News gave it out right at the end of the show (6:55pm) tonight

I think it's a sickening delay. With today's technology there is NO REASON medical equipment can't be wired directly to newsrooms so they can break the news effectively.

i must say, i have fond memories of those beadle tv programmes and although they got a bit ropey in the mid-nineties, considering what is considered the 'norm' these days, it was all harmless light-hearted entertainment.

There was an announcement on The One Show, by Adrian Chiles, at 7.05pm.

what a shame, another pioneering entertainer passes away, I guess because of the nature of the shows he did, they will always mixed opinions of him, but I remember watching shows like Beadles About and You've Been Framed and there were good shows for ITV, no doubts there.

Always remember him as a kid on Saturday nights. Fond memories.

What show was that?

I knew he had been suffering for a while and enjoyed it whenever he rang up James Whale on TalkSport. There really was so much more to him that most of the general public knew about!

I reckon there will be a black graphic at the end of You've Been Framed on Saturday.
