Well don't worry Gary, I don't intend to get into an argument with him!

FYI, I find my posts quite relevant, and on the subject of TV. If you don't like them, don't read them. Simple as that. Strange how those topics have become multipile page threads! I'm sure many readers of this forum are interested in my posts, so please keep your opinions to yourself. Thats all I'm going to say.

Gary and Martin and yourself don't count as every member of the forum, Robert.

The only reason these threads ever reach more than about 5 posts (normally 3 of them come from yourself) is because they go off topic.

Under normal circumstances I'd have replied to DAS's point about the media centre in Washington, it in Eye Street BTW.

Just post something interesting for a change.

Well what do you class as interesting? And then maybe we'll/I'll take you up on that!

Those in the know, for the benefit of those who aren't in the know (i.e. me), can you give a bit of detail about the Washington studio?

- For instance, where is it? Is it a building shared with other broadcasters or an office or what?

- Has it really got a nice view, or are those plasma screens. If the windows are real, why not make them bigger?

Sorry for my curiosity, but hey.

That's a good point about those windows, I thought it would be a bit too good to be true that every one seems to have a landmark in it. I don't know the geography of Washington, though. I also noticed that the Washington Monument (I think that's what it's called, anyway the big pointy thing) seemed to be in the same part of the window in every different shot. And of course there's the same view of the Capitol building from 2 different studios. It's a nice studio, except for those things around the windows, they kind of spoil the effect.

Gary, it's not that I don't find them interesting - actually it is. It's just that I find them increadibly pointless. Why do such minor things deserve entire threads devoted to them? Can they not just be mentioned in other threads, we've already got a thread about BBC News Specials - why can't they just be posted in there?

I really do hate the fact that a lot of members appear to only ever post about one tv network. Yes, I'll be the first to admit I prefer Sky to all of the others, but at least I make an effort to involve other broadcasters in my posts. This is not BBC Forum. 9 of the threads on the front page are about the BBC, for god's sake do the majority of members never watch networks other than the BBC? The first post I made in this forum complained about members not being able to appreciate other networks and 6 months and 2000 and something posts later I appear not to have got my message through. Open your eyes and try to appreciate something other than the Beeb, and while you at it stop **** ing me and many other members off with these irritating threads. If you want to mention something like this topic then spare us all and raise it in a thread that already exists.

Can i assume that these 'windows' in the background are 16:9 plasmas mounted lengthwise (so in effect 9:16)?

For anyone who wants the dogless and clockless BBC News Special opening titles, here they are!

BBC News Special

Thankyou!

BTW: I wonder if you get paid extra for presenting abroad, like Jane Hill does. Confused

I would have thought you would have got paid a bit more! BTW I wonder if you get the choice to do something like what Jane's doing. For example, I wonder if she went into work on Friday Morning and they simply said something like 'By the way Jane, you're going to Washington for Monday' !

I think they look really good though and dont look at all like plasmas

I believe the 'windows' are indeed 16:9 plasmas mounted on their sides. They are fed, I understand, by 3 DVD players. The DVDs have daytime and nighttimes scenes.

The effect works really well - I think it looks much better than the previous gauze backing into the newsroom.

BTW - Aren't the BBC News Specials getting much better. Today's 1230 programme was really nicely done, and felt really confident.

Correspondents everywhere it mattered, John Simpson on the video phone near Kabul talking to Lyse Doucet in Islamabad was really impressive.

Jane Hill is great in Washington, I'm really glad they've let her escape from London! The benefit of a multi-camera studio in Washington is really being felt I think.
