For the last couple of nights the wonderful Jane Hill has been doing the 1-5am slot instead of her usual 4-7pm on News 24. Why is this? I think when she first started she did the overnight slot but soon moved to daytime. Why have they given her such a rubbish graveyard time? Surely her brilliance was shown when she did four solid hours on News 24 and BBC1 when the terrorists hit America. I also recall her being on (and brilliant) when concorde crashed as well. Is it in her contract or something that she has to do so many hours for BBC World as well? I hope they put her back to usual soon.
Jane Hill is good, isn't she! As you can probably imagine, with the current crisis it's all hands on deck and everyone not necessarily in their usual slot.
I guess the reason why they are using the likes of Jane overnight is because they need a strong anchor overnight in the UK, as the news doesn't stop for the rest of the world. Don't forget that when we sleep, others are wide awake around the globe

Leading on from that, there is a scathing attack on the BBC's news and coverage of the events in America. But I wouldn't read too much into it, as the Sun did praise Sky News to the heavens, seeing as the Sun and Sky News are part of the Murdoch empire!
There is a reason why Jane is doing nights at the moment but I won't go into it... it's not a demotion or anything like that ... doing overnights is actually high profile as it's on BBC1 and BBC World .... but she will be back in her normal slot soon.
I know that when Jane was on overnights she used to get a lot of fan mail from America.
She is also one of the nicest people I've ever worked with.
I always relate news 24 with Jane because she was the first presenter i saw at 04.00 when news 24 was in its early days. I got up just before 04.00 and didnt know anything about n24 until i switched the tv on to see what was on (expecting a test card) instead there was a weather report with a weather map i had never seen so was intrigued it quickly faded into a flying flag (the red and yellow one) showing pictures of the days news (anyone remember that) then up came jane with a very warm welcome (the sort you need at that time of day) and i think i watched until n24 finished on bbc one. I think she is a brilliant presenter and long may her career continue (i hope).
Jane hill is one of the best presenters the beeb have got (no disrespect to anyone) i wish she would come back to weekend 24 as thats just about all i see these days with work all week so n24 is out of limits mon-fri.
I know that Jane did overnight Wednesday 0100-0500, but did she do Tuesday 0100-0600? Mike Embley was down for that, and Deborah MacKenzie the day before. Were they scrapped for Jane?
