Excellent production I thought. This must be the first time I've actually enjoyed watching something on the channel this year.

I want some more like this please.

It does look as though a biot of the old, and classic, ITV is creeping back into the schedules - some half decent and quite decent drama recently, quite good docu-drama's (suchas Titanic), even ITV news seemd to be getting slightly better since the close of NC (or is it becuase they are just shorter and are concentrating more on real news rather than entertainment news!!!).

All we need now is the number of episodes on soap to be reduced, more lifestyle magazines (such as Where There's Life, Wish You Were Here? etc) and proper decent game/quiz shows (such as Family Fortunes, Wheel of Fortune, The Krypton Factor - my own personal choices)

Shame CD:UK is being axed - I think that would have worked even better in a 6-7pm slot on a Sunday evening

The IBA had the power to order such cuts in the 70s and 80s. In fact, they forced a reduction in the number of weekly Crossroads episodes due to concerns about quality.

If only Ofcom did likewise.

There's lot of things the IBA could do which are totally inappropriate today.

Why should a regulator be able to insist that a commercial company reduce production of its most popular product. Could you imagine an Independent Biscuit Authority telling Mcvities to stop producing Hobnobs becase they were too popular? Or a Magazine regulator telling WH Smiths to only stock 5 diffrent womens magazines?

No you couldn't, Just in the same way that an IBA wouldn't be able to say that ITV must only put out 2 episodes of Coronation Street a week and MTV should only broadcast 1 episode of Pimp My Ride a week

In it's time when limited resources were available I approved of the interventionist attitude of the IBA / ITC, Now with many outlets this isn't so much of an issue.

However the laissez-faire attitude of OFCOM is undeniably harming the UK Broadcasting landscape, we need a halfway point to resolve issues such as the regional programming issue to the benefit of all.

There was a gem on Boxing Day, a remake of Jack Rosenthal's 'Ready When You Are, Mr McGill'. It contained a superb attack on the present state of UK TV.

Very 'un-ITV', only two commercial breaks in the 90 minute programme too !

They should have shown it Christmas Day peak time rather than that dross, The Booze Cruise.

"Ready When..." had already been shown on Sky Movies.

Maureen Lipman, Jack's widow, was on Simon Mayo's show on Five Live a few weeks back and was disappointed with the poor slot the film had been given.

So it was a movie rather than TV drama then ?, I wasn't sure, the break bumpers implied it was, but the end cap seemed to indicate 'made for TV'.

I share her disappointment.

Yet only 4.6 million watched it.

Which shows quality production doesn't always equal ratings sadly!

For such a late slot, little promotion and everyone too knackered overthe Christmas period to stay up that late or are still palying their Xbox 360s - I'm sure ITV will be pleased with the ratings?

Yep, 9pm is a really late slot.

Sorry! I thought this was the 'drama' that was scheduled after 11pm one night - and put that together with the comments about poor scheduling I came out with my previous repsonse!

Therefore, why did some of the people involved in this programme complain about the time-slot?
