That's great that you Canadians can get World!  I can't get it in the States.  I've asked World and they just say that they're are 'no plans' to broadcast BBC World in the United States.  Sux.

The U.S. has BBC America, don't it?

Yeah I have BBC America - but it's not the same. It only has about 1 and a half hours of BBC World news on it a day -- some of the programmes on the channel are good, but there's a lot of crap on it too

btw: are there any weblinks for these cable companies you talk about. ?I want to see what you get compared to here in Australia

The 2 major cable service providers in Canada are Shaw and Rogers:

http://www.shaw.ca
http://www.rogers.ca

But both websites aren't too resourceful in terms of what you're looking for. Instead you may wanna try Sitckguy's site:

http://www.geocities.com/stickguynf (click on television: specialties on the side menu)

Since Stickguy doesn't hang out here too often (he is a member tho) I just thought I'd advertise his site for him. Wink

BBC World isn't available on SkyDigital or ITVdigital for the same reason that Cartoon Network and MTV international versions are not broadcast on these services - because the broadcaster has decided to launch a service tailored for UK viewers (in BBC's case that's News 24) instead of the international service which would apparently be of less interest to UK viewers. Sky News and News 24 are both more popular than CNN International in SkyDigital homes for this reason.

No! BBC World is not on broadcast on any platform intended for UK viewers as it expressly forbidden by the BBC's royal charter. BBC World is a commercial channel funded by ads and subs -- therefore it is not allowed to be shown in the UK.

However, there are ways and means... Wink

How do you get BBC World in Yorkshire, Harshy?

The way to do it is to connect a 60 cm dish with a single LNB which is directed to Hotbird Analogue at 13 degrees East, you will then get BBC World, however with a 80 cm dish, you can get crystal clear reception of BBC World, although a 60cm dish will do a decent job, however you'll be left with a few little sparklies, but definitely won't ruin your viewing!

I forgot that Asa gave a link!

That's why BBC Prime is the BEST international entertainment channel from the BBC...wish it still carried Thames Television...

and on the subject of BBC World, I really don't understand why people are so desperate about recieving it...I myself have watched BBC News 24 for the first time ever only yesterday, and didn't find it very different from World at all (with the obvious exception of two presenters and a difference in graphics). In fact, as it doesn't have advertisements and those annoying ad fillers we keep on joining halfway through, I think News 24 is better.

Actually, the Shaw website has a list of all the TV channels for each community served. You just have to look REALLY REALLY REALLY carefully.
