This ITV50 business is a bit daft, yes okay ITV as a network is 50 and so is ITN but most of the regions aren't any way near 50, so why is each "ITVplc" region proclaiming that its area is 50 when most are in there middle to late 40's!

None of the ITV companies are 50 years old yet, and is the ITV *network* 50 years old? Surely ITV did not qualify as a network until there were at least two ITV stations broadcasting in two areas, which didn't happen until 1956 IIRC.
So, we're left with ITV in London is 50, which to London-based execs means the world started in 1955, and there's your answer.
But then again, isn't a similar scenario for the BBC? Starting out in London and then gradually rolling out across the rest of the country.
But at least the nations/regions have celebrated their own anniversaries in the past in presentation and in special series.
And another thought; with the regions joining in the celebrations, does this means that when the proper 50th anniversary of ITV arrives for each regions, these can now be ignored and by-passed?

I don't think they are, at least in my region they've always said something like "As part of ITV's 50th birthday we'll be looking back in the archives on tonight's Calendar".
Would you have all prefered nothing to happen, the amount of complaining that goes on, you lot are never happy

Asda is celebrating its 40th birthday this year. Do they only celebrate in the first store that opened? The one near me is only about 15 years old.
