Has anyone bought the official book 'ITV: The People's Channel'? I know someone briefly mentioned it in the other thread but it got lost among other items.

I don't know where they are selling it but it wasn't available in neither WHSmith or Waterstones today.

Also, has anyone had a look at that ITV Cultures one, you know the one that airbrushes Tyne Tees out of ITV history?

There's also those 2 TV Themes CDs out soon as well.

Well I got the ITV People's Channel book in Ottakar the other week. It's ok but if you already have the Independent Television in Britain volumes then I would probably not recommend it but the pictures look nice!

I haven't seen the other book yet anywhere. Apparently theres a hardback version at £60 where as the paper back is under £20.

Well ITV: The People's Channel is £12.59 at Amazon

If you buy it with ITV Cultures there is a discount, but it apparantly takes 4 to 6 weeks to get hold of that one, so I think I'll pass on that and just get the main one!

Yup that was me, I spent ages looking in WHSmiths and Waterstones (checked a few of them aswell) and couldn't find it, I eventually bought a copy from Borders (at The Trafford Centre) last week, who had several copies in stock. I would have bought it off the Internet, but books usually come buy couriers such as Parcel Force rather than the main Royal Mail post, meaning there would be a chance I would miss the delivery which would have meant that I'd have to go to the other side of town to pick it up from the depot.

Anyway, The People's Channel is mainly an extension from The Story of ITV series, but it goes into far more detail about the set up of the channel, the many programmes and more about the business side.

Apparently the two CDs will be: ITV 50 The Album , released 19 September, and ITV 50 Cult Themes , released 3 October. Amazon also mentions a DVD due for release on 17 October 50 Years of ITV but offers no info on its content.

I believe it's going to be the People's Channel documentary for the DVD as the HMV Website as it under 50 years of ITV Boxset by Melvyn Bragg but out next week for £29.99 ?

...where as
Play.com states it as a 8 disc box set. No mention of Mr Bragg but states "In celebration of 50 years of ITV this fantastic box set includes some of the most memorable episodes from A Touch Of Frost, Inspector Morse, Prime Suspect, Poirot, Cracker, Sharpe, Sherlock Holmes & Kavanagh QC."

Looks like Virgin have confirmed Play but on this occasion, there is cover art shown which ties in with the ITV50 Firework presentation as seen on the recent idents.

I'm a bit confused by the description "Sound and Vision (ITN March)", as I know Sound and Vision as the ATV March, composed by Eric Coates, used for openings.

I've got an mp3 copy, off the original 78 disc, complete with the London weekend (note - small w) opening announcement.

Requests, on the back of a five pound note, to the usual address!

Have already asked this in the Corrie thread, but looks like no-one knows there...

Any idea anyone if the Coronation Street theme on the ITV50 Album is the original one, as used on the programme... or the slightly dodgy orchestral cover version which usually pops up on themes CDs?

The ITV 50 Album is great had some fun with it on air this week. I've got another 10 copies on my desk at work - the powers that be are doing anything and everything to promote the birthday so I reckon quite a few local stations will be giving away these albums over the next few weeks.

Met the ex-boss of Thames yesterday who now lives in Stratford Upon Avon - he came in for an interview as we did a short piece on ITV's Celebrations - got my anorak on as you can imagine Laughing
