I missed the ITV show yesterday, is it repeated?

No Thunderbirds or any other Gerry Anderson show included Rolling Eyes

No - the show did really tend to celebrate the last 35 years of ITV, I was disapointed too.

Notwithstanding the revelations after Hughie Green's death I'd have expected at least a Hughie/Monica clip from Double Your Money , and indeed Michael Miles on Take Your Pick .

I suppose the list of 50 favorite shows could have been very different if the general public were allowed to vote on a more varied selection of programmes rather than just the 50 that ITV controllers decided were the best 50.

Rather than the best 50 programmes, the programme was just a case of - here's 50 best programmes in our opinion, you vote on the ones you like the most and then we'll put them in ascending order of popularity/no of votes and make a 3 hour show about it. You can't vote for anything else that is not on our list!

Not so good in my opinion. Rolling Eyes However, the programme was well worth watching even though it wasn't really a fair selection of ITV programmes.

I agree, there is no way Ant and Dec's takeaway is the 2nd best series in ITV's 50 year history.

There is no way ANYTHING with Ant and Dec is among ITV's top 50 shows!

Though surprising, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is easily the best Saturday night show on ITV in recent years - and when it airs it usually gets universal praise around here. I certainly think Takeaway is more deserving of number two than I'm a Celeb at number six!

Also glad it wasn't a Corrie / Emmerdale / The Bill top three!

Notice Jewel in the Crown is being repeated on ITV3 from tonight!

In your opinion, and that's the problem with these top ten / 50 / 100 programmes, it's so subjective and everybody has a different take on it.

Doesn’t it stand to reason that anything that is popular on screen today is going to rise to the top in popularity contests such as these. There was a fair mix in the top 50 of new and old programming, but I’m afraid if you were expecting some of the older stuff to rise to the top, you’ll find that people have short memories, older people do not vote, and the deceased aren't eligible.

And what’s with this overuse of this word 'chav'. Since when did anything popular become chav. That’s what TV is all about, delivering popular programmes to a mass audience.

Indeed I agree entirely. Recent programmes always win or come close to winning, for example didn't Little Britain win best ever comedy or something a few months back

Around about the 3rd and 4th week of September I believe

ITV actually went on air: Thursday 22 September at 7.15pm. A Thursday was chosen so that the ITV weekday contractor (ABC?) could have one night's ad revenues and the weekend contractor (ATV) the other.

This seems unlikely considering that ATV only had the franchise for Saturdays and Sundays, unless there was a special arrangement in that first week. Bear in mind it was not until the 1968 franchise change and the arrival of London Weekend that the franchise was extended to include Friday evenings from 7pm (later revised to 5.15).

The weekday contractor was not ABC - they held the franchise for the Midlands and North (the present Central, Granada & Yorkshire regions) on weekends from 1956-68.

The London weekday contractor from 1955-68 was Associated Rediffusion, later renamed to Rediffusion once Associated Newspapers pulled out.

ABC and Rediffusion of course were then forced into a merger as Thames Television in 1968.

Yes the first of the reports on Anglia this evening. Watching on Anglia West was great to see the presenters remind viewers that Anglia Television has only been on air for 46 years rather than “50”. Then a report about the start of Anglia, which clip wise was a repeat of the footage shown when Anglia celebrated their 40th and 45th birthday..(yawn).

No former Anglia presenters such as Katie Glass, Helen McDermott, Patrick Athoney , were even used to introduce the clips, the reports instead being presented by some camp reporter.

Ha ha!

Anglia has a special one hour programme on ITV at 50 on Sunday:

ITV@50: Anglia's Top Ten
Sunday 18th September, 5.30pm

To celebrate Anglia's contribution to ITV, today's programme reveals the region's top ten programmes as chosen by viewers.

From drama to documentary, through game shows, natural history, and much-loved regional features, Anglia's part in ITV's heritage is brought to the screen.

Plus the chance to revisit some of the characters that personified Anglia television for generations of viewers.

Narrated by veteran DJ David "Diddy" Hamilton - who began his career as a freelance announcer - the show features interviews with many of Anglia's favourite stars past and present.

Going slightly OT- (i didn't think it was worthy of a new thread)- In an interview with the "Mirror" to promote the game show marathon it has been revealed there will be a Christmas special of "Ant & Dec;s Saturday Night Takeaway" this year. The lads also hinted it will be the final time we see little A&D.
