Hetty Wainthropp...not everyone's favourite programme but I quite like it. Yet I was quite confused to see the detective drama series appear on ITV3 a couple of weekends ago. Now, isn't Hetty Wainthropp BBC? So why was it on ITV3? It is being shown on UKTV Gold just now - which is its real home. But Hetty Wainthropp has nothing to do with ITV3.
ITV has shown other BBC programmes such as Campion. Just like UKgold has shown ITV programmes such as Sharpe.
ITV3 must be showing some of the stuff that Plus never got round to show, though saying that last month ITV3 showed 'Carrotts Commerical Breakdown 3' (IIRC) which was made by the BBC in 1995 and talks about how everyone will have 500 channels, he also digs UK Gold for showing old programmes of him when he had hair. It also was shown on Plus a few times.
I agree that is does seem odd that an ITV branded channel shows BBC programmes.

I've also seen Carrott's Commercial Breakdown on Bravo a couple of times. This was a Celador production so presumably different channels must have bought rights to different series from Celador.
I think that these days, if someone wants to buy a series from the BBC, and other channels haven't bought the rights (or have used up all their showings), then the Beeb can't not sell the series - as to do so would be anti-competitive (and also not always in the interest of the licence fee payer - as the Beeb would be refusing income?)
I suspect that, as others have posted, ITV3 are using up some of the rights that Granada Plus had left when they ceased broadcasting.
There is a slight difference between ITV3 and UK Gold though - as UK Gold is not owned by the BBC and only run in association with them as well as Flextech (though there are rumours that ITV might be interested in buying the UKTV channels) Unlike ITV3, UK Gold is not BBC branded...
ITV have a brilliant library of classic shows that I'm sure we'd all like to see again without showing old BBC programmes. They should leave them to UK Gold.
Plus was a good chanel when it first started but in the end it was showing UK Gold's repeats.
example: Where is classic Corrie? Crown Court, jewel in the crown, brideshead revisited, world in action, classic crossroads (some just released on DVD), classic emmerdale, tales of the unexpected, londons burning, albion market (the eldorado of ITV) these are just a few i can think of but the list is endless.
I watched an episode of Hammer House Of Horror last night and it was quite scary, (the warewolf at the window was really scary).
Its a shame they are on so late as I couldn't watch the second episde because I was taping Dr Who Confidential on BBC THREE.
