No warning except for:
Ending a year of negotiations and speculation over what would become of joint-venture pay broadcaster GSB's two remaining channels
The staff would have been shocked about the speed of the closure, but it wasn't entirely unexpected

Well, I've "casually" hated ITV plc for a while now, but this just shows what ******* the management actually are. That's a truly disgusting way to treat their loyal staff - and with no warning at all!

According to a post elsewhere on the net, they've been negotiating with Sky for a while over GSB. At 1:00 ITV came up with a new offer of £10million which Sky accepted.
I can't see that they had much choice but to close it this afternoon, it's no good launching it without Sky carriage from day 1. The only thing that remains is how Telewest and NTL deal with the removal of the channel, when Granada Breeze closed they kept it going on NTL for a bit to fulfill their contact. I suspect ITV will have to pay to keep the cable-co's happy

The scary thing is it would appear this decision was made at some point late this morning/early afternoon.

It is a shame, I used to watch Dempsey and Makepeace on Plus, where will shows like this end up now?

It doesn't surprise me in the slightest, unfortunately. Granada has treated its staff like sh*t for some time now.
A great shame that an established channel like Plus should be pulled so casually.

Well the only reliable source of US classic like Hawaii 5 O and Kojak - has gone probably forever. It's just the usual standard tripe listed on ITV3.
When there was this rumour on the glus board a couple of months ago gplus denied it. I replied saying that even if the US classic were pulled I'd end my $ky subscription. The thread was deleted.
Looks like they didn't want that notion in circulation much.

They could have closed the far-inferior Men and Motors instead!
But then they'll annoy the willie pullers who don't want to pay for their pleasure.
Though I wish they had closed M&M instead it is MUCH worse. Normally, I'd have watched the old Coronation Street on Plus by this time in the morning- but it's not on now!

But Men and Motors is not the same as ITV3 is it? What would be the point of getting rid of Men and Motors and then launching ITV3 with Plus already around? If all you're missing from Plus is the old episodes of Corrie, then it's time to move on! Seriously! You complain when their are endless repeats of programmes, why does a few years difference make it good?

That's your opinion, but you're probably judging it on the crap tits and bums stuff after midnight. From 1200-2200ish it's quite a good channel, and indeed if you're into bikes, the only channel that has any decent programmes on the subject.

I normally tape it as im usually in work so will miss watching it, its a pity we will now miss out on some great storylins - Raquel/Des/Tanya triangle, Poison Ivy's departure, Ken/Denise, Deirdre's toyboy etc 1995/6 were quite boring years IMHO but I would have liked to have seen 1994 again.
Perhaps someone will repeat some later 1990s eps 1997-2000 were great years for storylines.
