An event which was due to be held in Weston-super-Mare and shown on ITV2 as a replacement for T4 on the Beach has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales:
Channel Four really shouldn't have 'killed' the T4 brand, it was a real winner in it's age group. Shows that ITV2 doesn't have the cache. T4 could so easily have been retained as a special event, such as T4 on the Beach, strand even if regular weekly appearances were to be removed.

Agreed. But saying that it will be harder starting out once again, whereas T4 on the Beach was more known. I think more promotion on the ITV channels, and in the paper would have easily won over some more people. I think they should have waited another month or so with a big push on promotion and the ticket number might have risen. It wasn't really given a chance.
I'm surprised that T4 on the Beach didn't live on as something like "4Music on the Beach", as over the last few years, it has been branded/promoted as a T4 and 4Music programme. Even though the T4 brand has been axed, it could have still been shown on Channel 4.

No it wasn't. I don't know of anybody within the supposed target audience which misses it.

I agree , the t4 brand just wasn't working anymore. No one that I know ever talked about it at all!
T4 should absolutely have been retained, but it's line up needed strengthening as it ultimately was suffering from mainly being home to E4 repeats and 4Music cast offs, with few - if any - original commissions in it's later years. A weaker Hollyoaks didn't help either.
Essentially though all T4 needs is one original show per week and the whole strand can be built around that - and without the brand C4 doesn't really have the slots for the sort of teen content they really should be doing.
I could go in to this in detail, and I think I have done before - but it's dead simple - teenagers do not watch television in anything like the kind of numbers they used to. Channel 4 aren't stupid, nor were Flextech/VMTV, nor are the BBC Trust.
It's a catch 22 situation though isn't it - if you don't provide the content they're not going to watch it, whether live or on demand.
It's also not just about the viewers - it's about breeding talent for the future, both on and off screen. Grown up TV is already suffering from the demise of kids TV over the last decade and T4 has had a decent enough record in developing talent from Ben Shepherd and Dermot O'Leary through to Rick Edwards and Nick Grimshaw (OK, I use the talent term loosely!) - though strangely enough the female hosts haven't really gone on to become big names.
What, so T4 should have continued as a favour to aspiring presenters and broadcasters? That's mental!
It's not a catch 22 situation at all. Viewers deserted T4, Trouble etc. years ago - it's totally disingenuous to suggest that they left because there was nothing for them.
