Reason I asked was because during the Lambie-Narin video about the 1997 BBC corporate rebranding, as it was discussing the old branding system, it showed a prototype logo for BBC Choice, looking quite similar to the BBC World logo at the time, even though Choice didn't launch in the UK until September 1998, so there's a possibility Granada/Carlton/UN&M had a prototype logo for ITV2, just checking;

Can anyone confirm if this logo's real or a mock-up? If it's the latter, whoever made this certainly did a good job;

Yes, I’m sure they spent all of 30 seconds on it.

I doubt today's graphic designers spend much longer.

And it wouldn't include the letters ITV or the number 2.

That's a genuine logo all right - but there are so many mocks floating around these days that the lines are being blurred to some extent...

I don't think this is a genuine logo at all, but just used to illustrate the "Every channel has to have its own logo" thinking pre-97 - later in the presentation they show the '97 style branding for BBC Learning and BBC Sport branded channels.

The mocked up BBC Arena logo uses Rockwell and the mocked up BBC Learning logo uses Times New Roman - if they were genuine, as in planned to be used on air, I think they'd look more refined than typing out some text in Word Smile

Still more real than some of the mocks floating around on the Internet though.

"We may be able to provide them in 20 minutes after we've played you some totally awful and inappropriate music over this anachronistic holding slide presented today in squashyvision."

Actually perish the thought. *shudder*

A worthy point to check, I can foresee that there perhaps was a precursor logo however the ITV Network logo (from 1998) would've been designed (not sure it was designed, more thrown together using Lucida in powerpoint 97) by the point the channel was being branded so maybe it would've been in the new format from the off?

Back on topic(ish), the BBC is 100 in four years. In other times, there would probably be a whole team of people set up ready with plans well underway. Not so sure today.

Wasn't there a big gala thing for the 75th? I think I remember watching it - perhaps with an awards element?
