according to someone on the DS Forums they're seeing Granada HD in Yorkshire.

Here in North Yorkshire (where I get Yorks W on 103), I'm getting Central on ITV1 HD, which seems a bit strange, as Granadaland is much closer.

Here is ITV's reply to a complaint about the Football cock-up

Quote:
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding HD viewing of the England v USA World Cup football match.

An error by ITV’s transmission providers, Technicolor, meant that ITV1 HD’s coverage of the England v USA match was interrupted for approximately 20 seconds. ITV1’s standard definition coverage was unaffected.

ITV immediately investigated this issue and a preliminary report has indicated that the cause of the problem was human error at Technicolor, in London. ITV's Sport production team in South Africa, who have produced high quality coverage throughout the tournament, were in no way responsible.

Richard Cross, Group Technology Director, ITV plc said: “We apologise unreservedly to viewers for the unacceptable interruption to high definition coverage of the match. We met with Technicolor first thing this morning to put in place measures to address the issue and to ensure that Technicolor takes the appropriate action with immediate effect."

May I take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to contact us here at ITV as we always welcome viewers’ feedback

They're not - they're both going out at 1080i - well certainly the Sky variant of ITV1 HD I get here in London is 1080i (I've just checked it).

AFAIK there are no UK satellite broadcasters using 720p for broadcast (and AIUI Freeview HD is all 1080i as well) - though SVT, NRK, ARD, ZDF are all using 720p in mainland Europe.

You may be confused by ITV1 HD running at 1440x1080 (same as BBC HD) when apparently STV are running at 1920x1080 - a totally different issue.

Sorry to quote myself (bad form, I know), but just as an update, it's now switched to Granada. It would seem like they can't make their minds up.

Been seeing the Beach ident again recently which is nice as it's always been one of my faves, but on HD, when the HD bit of the logo appears, it stays in front of all the action which is a shame when the wind break covers the ITV1 logo but not the HD bit.

I wonder why they couldn't get this bit added in properly when they got the new logo added in really well.

If they managed to incorporate the HD part in the Bubbles ident properly, why not in the Beach ident??

In the West/Westcountry area we are now getting Central News on ITV1 HD (on Virgin). That may be acceptable for people in Brizzle, in the ITV West region, but almost as irrelevant as getting London Tonight for those of us in the Westcountry region.

I thought there was supposed to be a 'Wales & West' mega-region for ITV1 HD? Although that would probably show Wales Today/Tonight , rather than Westcountry Tonight anyway. Shocked

The regional HD channels are there for advertising purposes not to replace the SD ITV1. It's not about relevance of the news content.

Considering what little news content there is on SD ITV1, then it's quite legitimate to argue that the SD regional variations are also in existence solely for advertising purposes!

They are aren't they? That's their main reason for being there. Seriously.

Well, I bet you they are there long after regional news has gone.

There are also more advertising regions than news regions.

ITV Central West , ITV Central East , ITV Central South , ITV Central South West = 1 News Programme. Why are they there? For advertising purposes!

Sadly, noggin, I was being truthful!
