Whats really annoying is that when the regional news comes on, there is a black banner on the bottom of the screen telling viewers to press 103 to view their own regional programme. Is this going to be removed anytime soon do you reckon?

Removing it wouldn't be very helpful to people hoping to see local news, would it?

Not everyone lives in London, so its perfectly reasonable.

When all four regions are running in June, no doubt they will show the 'nearest' local news.
Currently there are two versions broadcasting , but they're both simulcasting London ITV1.

Hadn't realised ITV were going to provide 4 HD ITV1s - are they flipping a transponder to DVB-S2 to squeeze them all one one transponder? (That will annoy a lot of HTPC owners with DVB-S cards)
Hmm - wonder what the split will be? North (Granada), Midlands (Central), South (London) and Wales & West (Wales?) ?

I also refer the honourable gentleman to my speculation in Post 143 of this thread.
Apparently Ofcom's giving ITV1 HD six regions http://bit.ly/cK7PR1 "Central, Granada/Border, Meridian/Anglia, London, Wales/West and Yorkshire/Tyne Tees"
It will be interesting to see how they deal with it, for example in the North- will it permanently be Border or Granada? Or would they mix and match the two, for example showing Granada daily at 1.50pm and Border at 10.30pm with alternating 6pm news bulletins?
Although no doubt this is paving the future for ITV when they claim they can no longer sustain their current regional structure and try and beg OFCOM to just let them do 6.
Hmm - wonder if they'll do all 4/6 on DSat - or just on Freeview HD (and possibly cable?) - at least initially?
Interesting that the old Meridian+Anglia combination lives on (dating back to the United days)
Yes, those regions are essentially based around current sales regions, and the Meridian/Anglia partnership is still going in that sense. Same with Wales/West/Westcountry - the old Carlton western block (presume WC isn't mentioned because it's part of "West" now).
Little bit surprised Granada has been paired with Border - surely the more natural pairing would have been Border/Tyne Tees, but again it looks like this is focussed on the advertising rather than the news regions.
