The Channel seems to have fallen into a hole this afternoon - no HD Idents or breakbumpers and awful A Touch of Frost stretched - all was ok this morning it's not been right since London Today at lunchtime.

I don't know why they bothered launching it... I've just been through the egp and there is barely any hd content.

On a lot of Sky+HD boxes, the picture on SD channels is shocking so its good to have a clearer picture. It might all be in upscaled format but its a hell of a lot better than standard SD.

When Channel 4 HD launched there wasn't much HD content to begin with, the HD channel developed as new shows were commissioned and now almost all shows are in HD. I'm guessing ITV1 HD will do the same.

Just on a side note, is there anything stopping Sky replacing ITV1, Channel 4, Sky1, E4 etc with their HD counterparts on the EPG? It makes more sense to have ITV1 HD at 103 than the SD channel at 103 and the HD channel somewhere else.

It doesn't make sense when the majority of their customers are still viewing in SD - though it would be good if they could do something similar to the regions and let viewers opt to either have the SD or HD version on the channel slot.

So is ITV1 HD dogged then, and is it full colour like ITV2/3/4? Also does C4 HD have a DOG?

C4 HD only carries a DOG during native HD broadcasts. ITV HD as seen before today has been dogged with a bright yellow thing, I suspect they will adopt the same policy as C4 HD now it's a 24/7 channel.

If they do follow that policy, then the ITV1 HD DOG won't be getting out much! Wink

2 solutions really, one is to add ITV1 HD as a red button option (press red to view in HD) and then it automatically taking you back to the SD channel for regional news, or simply a slide on ITV1HD saying "to view your regional programme, please go to channel ____".

I think it a HD version of each region would just be pointless but I think the way the HD channels are currently set out is stupid. The channels are on obscure numbers and if there is something people want to watch, then they'll most likely go to the SD channel because they can't find the HD channel or its too much hassle.

ITV1HD is back now for Corrie. Had the Bike ident. the new look logo looked really good against the dark backdrop of the ident.

The red button option isn't really acceptable as you can't record from it on Sky at least, I don't know about V+.

It wouldn't be acceptable for the HD channels to replace the SD channels on 101-104 at present as there are significantly fewer HD subscribers. If HD viewers can't be bothered hunting for their channel further down the EPG, then I doubt the SD viewers would be particularly pleased about having to do it.

Can anyone provide captures of the HD idents? I've got to wait until Tuesday before I get to see them round at my mates!

Which is an SD upconvert. If Ofcom weren't such a bunch of useless pansies, I'd attempt to stir up trouble with ITV transmitting a misleading DOG.

The beach ident just played with the new logo and worked really well. At least they have edited them correctly.

What's needed is an option in the setup menu for "Enable HD channels" which swaps the HD channels with their SD counterparts rather than doing it by default on the EPG - after all we know individual boxes can customise their EPG based on the viewers location, so they must be able to switch around some channels based on an option accessible to the viewer.

I think for the general entertainment channels at least it might be better if the HD channels were packaged together in their own section for now rather than scattered through the EPG - perhaps with a bit of a reshuffle BBC/ITV/C4/Sky1 HD on 201-206, with other HD channels from 210. Sky Movies HD and Sky Sports HD probably better off staying in the genre section.
