i liked your suggestion mromega200, but i thought it should be the other way round (region name in the centre - and itv1 in the sky.)  btw, as i dont live in a gmg region, i used the original itv1 image uploaded by square eyes, which is probably on his site too www.se-tv.co.uk

Ah yes, y'see, much better. And Granada could have created a modification looking something like that in an afternoon.

That is, if they'd actually produced the original, which they didn't of course. They just pinched a generic ident, then probably realised they couldn't modify it because it has a star flying in-front of the logo and decided they couldn't be bothered, so they just left it as it was.

An easy solution for the regional branding would just be to bring up the regional DOG in the top right.

The generic ident is probably used for ease in Leeds for announcements across the North, the announcer can mention ITV1 which is better than e.g. 'the news in half an hour now Coranation Street'

Give them an excuse to include any type of DOG?? No thanks! Mind you, I guess the regional logo wouldn't be any bigger than the ones currently shoved in that blue box in the hearts idents.

I don't understand. How is having your regional logo and ITV1 logo stopping the announcer from normally saying ITV1 (or even, shock, the region name!)?

And Anyway, they still say the region's name(sometimes) over junctions into regional programmes, despite them still using the ITV1 Xmas ident.

How is that better? I'd far rather they not mention any station name at all than itv1.

A lot is made of the way they don't mention station names. I was looking at an old tape of in-vision links from 1995 and they only mentioned the TTTV name twice all evening, at least in the links directly before programmes. But then I don't think you could mistake in-vision continuity for generic itv1 anyway!!!

Hey, there's an idea; generic in-vision continuity from Leeds, with the local DOG super-imposed in the corner. I think that would work quite well!!!

Why is everyone moaning about regionality for goodness sake?

Some ITV regions have decided to use a generic ident over a couple of weeks in the Christmas season, and we've got people distraught that regions are 'being controlled from London'!

I mean, does this really mean the loss of local broadcasting forever? I don't think so. Anyway, lets wait and see for the new look idents in 2002 if London are imposing their authority over the regions

You should all count yourselves lucky you are getting a Xmas ident, and a rather good one too.

We get our usual grey, wet, dull SMG idents and warbley music. I HATE them. Although judging by trailers we will be getting christmas idents on Xmas Eve, Xmas Day and Boxing Day as trailers for these days all have an Eskimo at the end.

I love the SMG idents.

Or at least I did until watching Scottish and Grampian on Sky. They probably have more variants than anyone else - all original and different. But I rarely see any. Why is it they always show the same one - the short one with grass in the background? Is this the case, or am I just tuning in at the wrong time every day?

Well the itv1 ident used in the GMG regions are not bad, although they could have added the regional ITV company onto the ident, but they have forgotton the total basics, where's the itv.com address and there is no information on what programmes have 'subtitles' on them!

And to a earlier reply LWT propably didn't adopt the itv1 ident, because they have left it to CARLTON to provide the christmassy ITV1 image, otherwise if LWT had adopted the ITV1 image used by the rest of the GMG regions, Londoners would have had two totally different christmas ITV1 images!

My theory is that GMG forgot about making Christmas idents until too late, so they used the generic one!

Well that theory doesn't make sense, how do you know that Granada didn't make that generic ident for it's stations ?

Because it looks too generic! Surely there would be a GR/N/D/ at the bottom of the screen.
