Well the ITV1 ident doesn't look like it's been knocked up in half an hour really does it ? It looks really good. Some of you people are very hard to please, if GMG stations had stuck with the usual rotating hearts which aren't at all remotely christmassy all you people would have come in here moaning that they just couldn't be arsed to do anything different and just weren't bothering.

It's something different for Christmas. They only last for a short while, and in any case theres bugger all in terms of regional variations over Christmas anyway, so why not have a generic ITV1 ident ? It's only what BBC One has 365 days of the year anyway.

At least new idents, whatever they are gives the likes of us something to talk about. Never mind jason the spinning hearts which you obviously so adore will be back as soon as Christmas is done with.

Well, if ITV Night-Time don't use those idents your comments are totally valid. Otherwise it's perfectly valid to say they still can't be arsed to do anything different and just aren't bothering.

It might look good, and if Granada had taken the extra 5 minutes to modify the idents to include the name of the station at the bottom of the screen (not the logo, just the name would be fine), or even make mention of the station name at each junction it wouldn't be so bad.

Like I say though, it's no bother, Granada will just lose me as a viewer. I have no problem with that.

Agreed! I can't believe that people would prefer for them to do absolutely nothing out of protest at losing the regional name for a few days. I wouldn't like to see one generic ITV1 ident permanently by any stretch of the imagination but losing the hearts for a week is a relief....

As Andrew well pointed out earlier, I really don't think we can read much into this.

I don't get that, surely you watch the station for the programmes on ITV1 / Granada not the idents that proceed them ? Surely you don't think, well I wouldn't mind watching that programme but I won't watch it because that generic itv1 ident that I can't bare is on before it ? Weird.

So if they went to all of this effort in the first place then why couldn't they bother themselves to go one step further and retain some regional branding?

It's already been pointed out that these are only going to be used for a few days, so why go to the effort in the first place?

Yes, it looks nice as an ident. But in terms of working with the ITV Network, it is truely dire.

No, it is very easy to receive a different ITV region now, and I will simply watch one of those instead. As you perfectly well know.

Ok, so you'll still be watching ITV1 then, seems a bit pointless for the sake of a 5 second ident before programmes. But hey, if that's what you want to do then go with it.

Good, that's that settled then.

Although it puzzles me that you come on a presentation website and discuss the branding of stations when you class them as being so 'pointless' in any case. Still, whatever yanks your chain I suppose....

I don't claim that the idents are 'pointless'. What seems pointless to me is that you would refuse to watch a channel because you don't like the idents that proceed the programmes. If that was the case for me, there would be loads of channels I would never watch.
