ITV Weather graphics need a makeover. They should have done this on Monday. Alongside the ITV1 refresh - however hopefully it will be soon.

The sponsor "Powergen" need to start sending out new ads, as the current ones are old and need to be axed.

Edit: Does this need to be in the Newsroom or not?

The graphics were updated last year weren't they?

True, but they are very poor in quality.

They're a bit bland and boring. The actuall graphics look a bit tacky and dated.

The logo is annoying, all squashed and in yellow like ITV1, with the "WEATHER" bit really small and... ugh. Smile
The blue background is a shade from Paint as well.
I agree - they need a revamp.

I doubt they will be updated any time soon, and if they were updated they would no doubt be hated due to some minor reason and the old ones immediately wanted back

At least they are still using proper symbols so you can see what is going on unlike that BBC weather PR disaster

Obviously a surprise refresh that nobody knew was going to happen is not enough and suddenly everything is 'dated' and needs replacing Rolling Eyes

I'm not anti-ITV personally, I simply just don't like the weather graphics. I'm sure I'm not alone. Opinions against ITV are allowed.

I used to agree with you on the BBC weather graphics, but I've grown to like them. Excluding the horrible brown, they are, IMO, easier to pinpoint specific weather conditions in a particular area rather than the region around it.

Now we are use to the BBC graphics they do work.

ITV don't need too major changes really - just changing the background (some of the regions use clouds and it looks alot better) would improve things, and maybe doing more 3D stuff - but keeping the symbols.

Andrew does love his ITV, I'm not sure why he feels the need to defend it so much it isn't a competition - well not that kind anyway. I guess alot of people have negative things to say about ITV (rightly and wrongly) so it events out the balance I guess.

As for the graphics they're not the most attractive weather forecast graphics although as Andrew says having the symbols is useful and I hope when ITV next update their graphics they keep them in some form.

I wouldn't say the beeb's are a PR disaster, change is never liked but they rode the wave of negativity and sailed through ok. I'm not a big fan of the graphics or the way they use them. Pres wise they look bland and from a practical point of view they've not got the movement right - the South Coast moves past so quickly you can't focus on the weather.

And they seem to stop at the Scottish/English border as well. I feel sorry for the folks up in the north of Scotland.

Well I don't know but the BBC weather I watch the most is on Look North and Paul Hudson is always apologising for the graphics, either when they are not showing up what he is describing will happen, or when they don't show anything at all (on a dry clear day)

ITV's graphics aren't the best they've had, I prefered the old GMG graphics prior to these, but I don't want them to change them just for the sake of it

I think that all they need to do is to revamp them.

I was thinking of tealing up the UK, and having a deeper teal wave effect for the sea, and either round off the rectangles, or use the strips (like on the weather bumper) onto the bottom of the map (ala channel TV weather).

Of course that would have then fitted in with the news and not the old blue/yellow ITV branding, though of course now is a different matter.
