ITV1 Wales Continuity

Any Better? (July 2005)

After slagging of Scottish/Grampian TV Continuity this week I thought I would see if ITV1 Wales is any better with their pre-recorded continuity.

Thursday night and the 'Next Link' into the break before Emmerdale had the female announcer telling us what was happening in last nights episode - then told us that following Emmerdale it would be Coronation Street - so the pre-recorded situation is no better then? Obviously someone played out the wrong link!

At least SMG get the day right.

It seems the national ITV Continuity is best - and I must say well done to Graham Rogers on the daytime shift today who coped very well with a technical breakdown at the end of the extended lunchtime news.

LOL, I did see that junction at 18:57 and it didn't click that the wrong ident and voice over was aired!

It read:-

"Next
19:00 Emmerdale

Later
19:30 Coronation Street"

I wonder if they will all be incorrect tonight?

PS When it all works, the Welsh announcers add a familiarity to the station rather than the network announcers and it's such a shame that all the great other regional announcers have vanished! Sad

Well the anno into Coronation Street was cut off so it didn't get introduced properly anyway.

Recorded situation is just madness and so often goes wrong/no sound/gets cut off -- and it nearly always clips network.

What I'd like to know is how HTV have managed to have only two people announcing for a station for nearly three years.

It's recorded fairly close to transmission [or can be, as the 7th proved] -- do Sue and Leighton never have any holidays?

Maybe they have ISDN installed at home and record from there if need be?

Well I'd say that's probably very likely. I'm certain Leighton lives in the west.

But I mean, it might be nice for Sue to go to Tossa del Mar for a fortnight, or Leighton might fancy a ramble in Brecon.

As far as I'm aware [and I've not watched HTV every day since Oct 2002 by any stretch] they've both been on every day since.

When i saw the 18:57 junction I thought it was Wednesday for a minute as Corrie was mentioned. Its ridiculous that they cant get simple things like this right.

They havent. I have a tape from early 2003 and Dilwyn was still announcing then. But certainly since Mid 2003 its been just the 2 of them. They only need 2 as its recorded so they dont have to be there live between midday and midnight (or whenever it used to be when done live. Ive not watched HTV every day since then either but ive never heard anyone else. HTV have only had to 2 staff announcers anyway since they got rid of in vision announcers in 1993, they had Sue and Dan from 1993-2000 and then Sue and Leighton from 2000-present. Dilwyn and others came on as freelance.

Oh please ITV national continuity and their announcers are crap there are a couple of older ones who survived the axe who spout out the usual dribble as they are not great at the conversation thing. The younger announcers are just naff. They should take some tips from the Channel 4 announcers they are the best of all .
