ITV1 Wales

Is that the new logo Martin? That font looks very good - where have you got that from?

But by the sounds of things there will be no Welsh announcments and no mention of Wales on the idents either!

I heard a description of the logo, no Idea if its true or not, we'll find out later I guess...

The version of the ITV1 Wales logo I saw had the word 'Wales', positioned below 'itv', and roughly the same width as it. It appeared in white, not yellow.

I don't think they'd use the channel 4 font .

Who suggested it would?

i think it's an absolute disgrace. I had the smallest amount of respect for ITV in keeping the Wales brand and announcers, but now that's gone.

Viewers in Wales WILL notice they've gone. It's a different broadcasting culture in the principality. Maybe one day someone in London will realise that.

It doesn't cost much to have one or two announcers to make you feel that empty shell in Culverhouse Cross is actually worth something. But no, they just can't help themselves, if it's not 100% necessary, they axe it.

I expect Charles Allen needed an extra chauffeur or something. Of course, it will all backfire on them. See you in hell ITV.

So for those not near a Sky Digital box, the idents have "Wales" on them - do the network team verbalise "ITV1 Wales"?

So Martin had the position close - but the size of the font was a bit out!

From what I can gather, the announcement is the same as England, so no verbal mentions of Wales, although the word does appear on the idents.

It sure as hell won't feel the same. Without trying to sound derogatory it won't sound the same without the Welsh twang in either Leighton or Sue's voice. Neither will it sound the same at the idents for the news. There won't be the "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening!" or "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening you're watching ITV1/ITV Day Wales" again. Something that made Leighton and Sue's announcements more warming.

Good move, ITV! Making everything go national except for news and weather is a great idea. You won't get messed up on if its either ITV1 or you region's name! In all the decision in axing the the local announcers is good. Just bring them back for before regional news starts, like they did back in 2002!

Has anything appeared in the local press about this? Can't see anything after a quick Google, but it was quick. If there has been no or little reaction, then that's a shame but I guess justifies the decision. I seem to recall that the former boss of Classic FM now "runs" ITV Wales (in so far as anyone can run an ITV franchise outside of London these days). He was a bit of a hatchet man there, and it appears he's continuing his work over in Wales.
