Yes, I mean ITV only got 7/10 of the top rated programs of 2006

Well re-check the ratings, what do the BBC have? a soap and a reality are shows ... oh look thats the same as ITV's

Did you read that article properly? Andrew Lloyd Webber went to ITV, not ITV approached him. Check your facts! And all Channels do news programs and current affairs, so its not just ITV copying there ...

There is nothing wrong with them getting ideas from other channels but they really should come up with some of their own ideas.

But anyway, well done to ITV!

It's getting increasingly difficult to come up with original ideas in this day of age but there are a few innovative commissions in the winter line-up as well as a few more coming up in the next year and so. Of course some people choose to ignore this.

Check the all-hours shares for 2006. BBC1 was the most watched channel, down slightly from 2005. ITV1 down significantly from 2005. ITV rely on quick, short bursts of crap like I'm a Celebrity to get the ratings, that is why they are in financial troubles with advertisers, they lack consistency which BBC1 has.

The difference being soaps aren't on nearly everyday like they are on ITV1.

No-ball called. Andrew Lloyd Webber isn't going to ITV. He is working with the BBC on the successor to Maria, Any Dream Will Do. It is Simon Cowell who is doing ITV's copy-attempt Grease.

Yes, all channels do news, but ITV does it in a most pathetic tabloid style.

Probably, but who gives a ****. Goodness me, they say that this place is biased in favour of the BBC. It is interesting that people would rather defend the steaming pile of crap that is ITV ahead of the public-owned BBC. When the BBC was rightfully criticised for attempting to copy the Pop Idol format in the form of Fame Academy, all you lot squeal like pigs at the top of your voices. But when ITV, devoid of all creative talent, seeks to profit on the back of BBC format successes like Doctor Who, Maria and Strictly Come Dancing (Michael Grade was right, the BBC should have sued the arse off ITV over Dancing on Ice) you let them get away with it. Hypocrisy on the grandest of all scales.

I apologise in advance but I really find it difficult to take anything you say seriously, whether or not you use words like "hypocrisy".

I don't find it strange how people want to defend ITV - it is a free service which you don't pay directly for, and when they come up with a ratings winner - you've got to applaud them - whether it is reality TV or not.

Mobile phones have developed over the years by adding twists and turns to previous models - it's the same with TV. Competitors nick ideas, and develop them - if the ratings are good enough, it shows that there is a gap in the market for them - get over it!

If anything, people tend to defend the BBC in this place, like yourself - and by the power of sweet Jesus, you are someone who actively looks to do just that - hence the fact you come onto a pro-ITV thread, and you come on here for the sole purpose of dismissing this results and exclaiming to the world (or should I say 3,954) how the BBC is the best.

You're a person that would buy a bar of Cadburys cholocate, and defend it to the rooftops, despite that fact that it contains salmonella. Yet if you were offered a free bar of choco from Lidl which wasn't half bad, you'd go off on one because some people actually enjoy it.

You've got to lighten up and start to endulge in commenting on things you enjoy for a change!

I think 'intheknow' is actually an ITV fan and he has taken this slant on things to get other people to prop up the 'ITV isnt as bad as everyone keeps saying' views that he believes....

That never really makes sense considering the crap they show in the day is far worse than what they show in primetime, and far less estabhlished than ITV1's daytime morning line up at least.

BBC1 seem to have about three formats wrapped up as about twenty different shows!

No, get it right. Andrew Lloyd Webber asked BBC2 did they want Grease. He then went to ITV to see if he could get a better offer, and he did, and Simon Cowell came on board so that it would be a definite ratings winner.

All broadcasters steal other formats and develop them. For every rip-off program ITV do, there is one that another channel has done.

You said we were all hypocrites, well so are you. You said

Well lets take a look at the BBC1 soap schedule

Monday-Friday
1:40pm: Neighbours
2:05pm: Doctors
5:35pm: Neighbours repeat

ex. Wednesday

7:30pm/8pm: Eastenders

Now lets look at ITV1's soap lineup

Sunday- Friday

7:00pm: Emmerdale

Mon, Weds, Fri, Sun

Corrie: 7:30pm
Monday- 8:30pm

I make that out to be 19 showings of soaps for the BBC and 11 showings of soaps for ITV1.

Most people forget the daytime soaps on BBC1, and think that the BBC only have EE.

Also, intheknow, I suggest you look at the top 40 programs of 2006. ITV1 have 23 programs in the top 40, and have the top spot (even without the football). BBC have 16 and Channel 4 have one.

The difference is the BBC show most of their soaps during the daytime. During peak time ITV show far too many episodes of soaps.

Double episodes of Corrie are really not needed week in week out, apart from special storylines like this evening for example.

Yeah, I don't watch news but that dosen't mean I don't watch Channel 4. In fact, most of the programs I watch are on Channel 4, just ITV bashers annoy me when facts are there and ITV have top programs but certain people try to sugarcoat these facts to make the BBC sound better.
