I have just tuned to one of the frequencies to see a still from 'Trisha'. Then my Digibox froze and rebooted.
What's going on?

If what you say happened actually did, then you must have been checking the transponders this morning and received one of the streams and so you would have known about it. To my knowledge, they haven't been testing today so what you say happened is impossible. Tell us what you were doing this morning - if indeed they were testing then other people are bound to come in and confirm this.

Hmm, well there's still 5 1/2 hours to go Very Happy

Ok, probably not today. Ed on MHP-Chat (seems to know what's going on!) mentioned 'officially Monday' although he's now said 'NOT YET. Watch this space' at 2.30 so whether he was told it would be later in the day or not I dunno! I can't see ntl: doing anything now though, they'll all be home!

Hmmm. Shame it's not started testing Sad

I think it will start on Thursday - being the first of the month....

Or tomorrow? Because new channels always seem to start on a Tuesday for some reason.

...or Wednesday, or maybe Thursday. Hang on, how about Friday? Actually, some channels start on a Saturday. Sunday's officially the start of the week. Then again, next Monday?

Once again, I don't think we know do we? Very Happy Bugger! I was looking forward to today!

Information from 'Ed':

Quote:
I have just had it confirmed that ITV will start official tests via Sky
Digital this coming Thursday 1st November and not today as previously thought.
This is due to contractual problems which states that ITV are not allowed to
test before the 1st of the month. I understand the tests to commence at
lunchtime on this day.
These are the channels that will be testing along with the test labels which
need to be stored.

Thanks for that J2K.

I'm not sure how I missed that email, it came in at 6.42pm!

And I get all day Thursday off as well....nice!

Oh GREAT!!! Sad

Tyne Tees gets to be on the transponder with a whole wad of channels. And at 22000 symbol rate as well. Which means the picture is going to be a load of sh*te. The others are nicely spaced out, so will have a better picture. I do hope these channels are FTA for this reason alone. 7 channels on a bandwidth-limited transponder is just not good enough Sad

Oh, and why don't Meridian, Anglia, Yorkshire or Tyne Tees have sub-regional tags? They have subregions as well you know!!

Tyne Tees presentation is so poor, they deserve to have a low quality picture, at last I want have to suffer Yorkshire/Tyne Tees again!Razz:

Did anyone get the ...'This film is an exclusive presentation on the ITV analogue terrestrial, cable, digital cable and digital terrestrial network...' continuity announcement before 'Tomorrow Never Dies' last night? I didn't but just picked it up from DigitalSpy. It's harking back the authoritative days of announcements like 'THIS is BBC 2.....in COLOUR!'

And Dan-the-continuity-man on BBC One (Daily) this morning, '....ahh yes, the incident in an Indian restaurant....' while taking about some colourful design in Real Rooms or something! All part of the friendlier continuity or have I just not been paying attention to these jokes?!

<Pointy Headed Note>

Err - Jason - you may be confusing broadcast Symbol Rate with effective Data rate.

The amount of useful data on Astra 2D and 2A transponders is the same! Don't forget the 22000 ones are running with lower amounts error correction as at the lower symbol rate and tighter beam they are using the transmission scheme is more robust...

Astra 2A - SR 27500, FEC 2/3 = 18333 Mbs data
Astra 2D - SR 22000, FEC 5/6 = 18333 Mbs data

Therefore the ITV transponders will have an identical amount of data available to carry video and audio data as other transponders already in use. Note that none of the transponders are carrying as many channels as the appalling C4 one - which tries to squeeze 10/11 video services in at times...

(FEC describes the fraction of the symbols used to provide forward error correction - 2/3 means 1/3 of the symbol rate is used in error correction, 5/6 means only 1/6 of the sr is used)
