I hope so.
Someone else said that maybe they will only use regions on DSat for local news, and use one global region for everything else.
This leads me to a question - how would the idents work? Would they opt out just for idents or just have an 'ITV1' ident, with no region name?

Think that was me who said that. Well I've just checked, it's hard to say what is going on at the moment with encryption because I don't have any equipment set up at present to look at the data. But, it looks like they have been testing the Dynamic Switching System this afternoon. It is certainly possible that they are indeed going to fully encrypt one stream and use that as a generic itv1, with the other streams being used for the regions and switched in and out as and when required. As for the idents, that is an interesting one! I can't personally see them switching over all the time for idents, but then in an automated system... anything is easily possible.

Really??
How on earth does that work? I would be interested to read up on Dynamic Switching and transponders generally if you know any good sources of information.
I personally can't see what the benefit of opting in/out would be, they still have to have 16+ channels everytime there is a news bulletin, so its not like they'd save any bandwidth.

Plus the fact that all the regions have local adverts as well, so it would just be best for them to have each region on its own channel all the time, only opting in/out of any encrypted channel for rights they dont have Europe-wide access to e.g. Champions League etc.

2-1 was still there when I checked half an hour ago. I don't think it's available FTA -- meaning this is an unlocked FTV/soft-encrypted signal. If this is the way it's going for all the channels that can only be a good thing -- other channels do not look as if they've been set up properly yet. Using Anglia as a test region as it is first alphabetically seems to be what they are doing.

I've just heard from a friend that they are going the soft encrypted route
He has the equipment set up (I don't) so I trust him. Yes, Anglia is the first region to be on the road for transmission soon. It looks like Anglia will be the first itv1 region to be broadcast on DSat and we should expect to see Anglia up and running with a full FTV regional service in the next couple of days - hopefully tomorrow.

He says DSS will be used for toggling between an encrypted stream for the like of the Champions League, and the region. This is seriously looking to be the case.

One small snag -- someone on DigitalSpy is saying that he is in the Grampian area and can only receive the Grampian test -- no Anglia. Not confirmed of course but that sounds bad... do we know if anyone
outside
the Granada areas can receive Anglia test?
Hmmm, not sure how true that is. If it is, he would be advised to delete the streams and then download them again and see what he gets then. I had the same prob, it's just the way the dodgybox 'remembers' the state it was in before ntl made adjustments.
