Another interesting development is that RTE1 and Network 2 are due to start broadcasting on the Sky Digital platform. Again, I'm not sure how the service will be encrypted. However, it is likely tht folk in NI will receive the channels, if not the rest of the UK (in the Irish republic, they get BBC as part of a subscription package. Possibly UK Mainland viewers will get the same with RTE).
Of course if it is restricted to NI, time to get a NI FTA card methinks

As a new subscriber to this forum,I have read the comments regarding ITV inclusion on the SKY DIGITAL platform with interest,
In my view,if ITV can agree a deal with SKY to fully encrypt they will do so.
They will not want people viewing other regions for 2 reasons:-
1 Advertisers who wish to use say YORKSHIRE TV will be seriously hacked off if they find people are watching CARLTON/LWT for instance. From the end of Nov this is ITV's biggest time for advertising and pressure from advertisers to stop this will likely be brought to bear.
2 Copyright. When programmes are bought they are intended for use only in the specified region. Not visble UK wide.
Sorry to be a pessimist but I think this is now likely as we can see the encryption is now being tried on the tests.

Just tried the setting up the new ITV1 test channels on Sky Digital, but get a second screen with lots of selections on it, none of which are channel numbers...... what are they and how do you get to the channels?

Which frequency is this then?

Yeah I think the time is derived from the actual channel...
I really don't know why everyone is getting all doom and gloom about this all of a sudden. It is no less likely now that we'll get all the regions as it was a week ago. Just because (soft-)encryption is in place does not mean they'll put a lock on the channels!!! You might have to go into 'Other Channels' but is that any great hassle??? In any case if it is soft-encrypted with a region lock I'm fairly sure it's possible to make an 'educational' card that can free up the regions for testing purposes
One of these was touted a while back but it's currently useless because no-one else does region-locked soft encryption (other regionalised stations do not lock or are full-encrypted).
Harshy, if you hate TTTV so much why don't you get cable, then you'll be able to watch YTV in all it's superiority!!
[EDIT] In fact, something has just dawned on me, Harshy. You live in Bradford, right? (I take it you are Harshad from digitalspy who is forever slagging off TTTV). Well if the regions are postcoded you will get YTV on Sky Digital!!! So you won't have to slag off TTTV anymore, you'll get your beloved Yorkshire Television and all it's total superiority to TTTV (allegedly, I can get both and I have to say that YTV's local programming is worse than TTTV's!!!).

The numbers involved would be so small as to be not worth bothering about!

Not true. 99% of all ITV programmes are now bought in on a national basis!!!

I reckon it could follow one of the following patterns:
(in both cases you would get your local region - postcode dependent - on 103)
(a) the other regions would appear in the 800s or 900s like BBC2 Scotland/Wales/NI do
(b) you may have to add channels to recieve them (like Big Blue/The Saint outside their regions)
In any case whether the broadcasts are FTV or FTA, they will be visible because DSat broadcasts are nationally beamed with all restrictions being relayed between your own dish/box and Sky's big computer in Middlesex.
