the original and best series of crossroads was my favourite . the trademark wobby set and foul acting made it a classic must watch programme for several episodes.

the last rencarnation was the poorest yet. it tired to do what neighbours and home and away does to hide a shallow poor storyline in with some eye candy but this failed

Oh do be quiet you.

I am not Ronald McDonald and he is not me.

The problem with showing MK1 Ronald is that most of the pre-1980s episodes were wiped. If anything, ITV2 might trot MK2 out again but I doubt it.

Ronald, like most people, was obviously not impressed with the shoddy piece of television that stained our screens for 5-6 months.

he is right - there are a lot of missing episodes. The only full series are the 2001 and 2003 ones as companies don't wipe as much as they used to.

Last I heard, 1,536 of the original series still existed. Companies don't wipe material now, not when they can make a mint from selling it abroad and to UK Gold and similiar ventures.

I wouldn't say "most" of the series was wiped, certinally a large amount of 70s material would still exist, by the kate-70s, the TV companies had come to thier senses about not junkign material.

I think they should repeat Mk2 in a lunchtime slot or maybe at 2.30pm and then move Shortland St to 5pm

I think Mk1 would seem far too old fashoned for a channel like ITV1 now and besides I understand that a lot of the early episodes have been lost. Mark 2 was good and if they repeated that id watch it.

The lost episodes of Crossroads are mainly going to affect B/W episodes. Most colour episodes from the mid-70's onwards do I think still exist. It is feasible to show the series from somewhere in the 70's even if gaps exist - I presume at least *something* from the original episode pre-production stage still exists, so maybe they could bring in people (the original actors maybe as far as is possible) to read through the script on missing episodes, and then package these as special programmes. Alternatively, they could at least put together a cheap V/O detailing roughly what happened in the missing episode.

Or if they want to do nothing at all they could just acknowledge in the link into the programme that an episode has been missed out and then just carry on. Soaps are very easy to get back into - every avid soap watching must have missed at least 1 episode of their favourite soap - and it took them about 5 minutes to recover from that.

I read some time ago that they really had no idea what was in the Central archives or not, and in what condition it was in. It would be some job for someone to try to find the old Crossroads.

Also, don't forget when it was on satellite a few years ago, they only showed the last few - they didn't go far back.

I remember Crosssroads being shown very early on UK Gold a few years back - from what I re-call they started showing it from the early 80's possibly 1981. The ATV endcap was seen for some of the episodes before the original Central endcap.

It was still with the original theme.

I bleive the BFI jsut finished restoring all the episode of Crossroads on obsolete 2" tapes last year- that was probabally the problem with UK Gold's showings.
