It isn't too exciting in Carlton London - but from 2nd Jan the local weather will be sponsored by Admiral instead of Amerada.co.uk and in widescreen (as LWT) - set your videos!

Didn't Carlton's weather used to be sponsored by Admiral?

And if the new sponsorship titles are annoying (I mean that bloody t*****
dressed up as an admiral), I swear I am going to write to Carlton and beg them to change the sponsor. They better be good.

And does anyone know why, up until very recently, the maps on WSI's website were identical in design to Meridian's graphics? Were Meridian's forecasts based on an original WSI design, or did WSI like Meridian's so much they based their own corporate maps on their forecasts?

And why are a number of regions changing their own forecasts at the same time? Have they all switched to the Met Office where they were once WSI? Will the designs all be the same or similar? Who is changing?

This guy is full of questions! Wink

It's just occured to me that seeing as the ITV National Weather is produced by the Met Office, maybe the regions which are changing may go down the route of using ITV's graphics (assuming as Stephen said that they are switching to the Met Office). Carlton will be using ITV graphics - maybe other regions as well?

Will Carlton London/LWT still be using the ITV1 national forecasters?

Don't remember Carlton ever having Admiral before, but it's all based around a tax disc, there are seven versions for different weather conditions. I wouldn't call them annoying, just dull.

I think the Met Office just bid for a lot of contracts the WSI had. The Met Office has some fantastic software for animating graphics and video based around MACs, you can customise the look to the local stations style and incorporate 'of the day' news footage easily.
The bloke who designs the ITN election graphics does it.
The new 'Met Office' regions will be using similar software to the stuff GMTV uses, so thats a hint of what it can do.
Meridian will be getting a new (3min?) in depth forecast on a Sunday presented by the ITV1 Forecaster.
Hope this of interest!

Scottish TV has just recently changed their weather graphics, and it's awful. For those who don't know, they've changed the Scotland map to 3D, and they go all over the country and show what the weather will be doing. The only trouble with this is that ITVs weather's always wrong, so I never trust it!

Are they the same as the ITN News Channel?

surely central wouldnt loose charlie and emma from wsi ... im hoping we'll avoid loosing central weather as it is. the intro and music is only 3 months old, and we're sponsor-less at the moment, which is good.

if the met offic get it, will they be recording them from london, or will theyhave offices elsewhere?

Can't agree more. Emma and Charlie make central weather what it is. They are both very good at weather presenting and they have nice personalitys. I especially like Emma Jessons 'Bye-Bye' its become quite a trademark. I think the weather is better sponser-less for the past god knows how long we've been sponsored by Staybright Windows. And the weather has started with Window cleaners, lorrys, whistling, houses, ducks and a big Staybright logo stuck on the screen and an announcer saying 'Central weather sponsored by Staybright windows and conservatorys, the clear choice in any weather'. Its gets quite annoying hearing that every day! The weather vein they are using at the moment is the best I have ever seen. Its simple but affective and theres no announcer/Staybright logo.

Who noticed on Sunday evening when Emma or was it Charlie?? Did Central News weather and Meridian Tonight weather, where would it have been done from?

Anyway most ITV1 regions have their weather broadcast outside of the main 6pm programme where as Meridian Tonight doesn't it has it inside with graphics the identical to the programmes.
Does that make sense??!!

Channel Television get there weather from the Jersey Met Office which is separate from the UK Met Office so it will be interesting to see if anything changes at Channel.

I have a spookey feelings things will as there aren't using the normal news studio for bullitins.

I think the concept behind the Scottish Television weather forecast graphics is very good, it brings a whole new dimension to an otherwise static weather map.

The 3D flypast over the Central Scotland region is rather novel.

It's certainly better than the other regions dull forecasts.

Westcountry weather is now WSI and seems to change sponsor every few months (Staybright Windows and Flambards are the two regulars that pop up most often).

I must say I don't like the WSI forecast. I much prefered Ron Bendall when it was integrated into Westcountry Live (although it was better when he had a proper screen to present from - the early bulletins when he pointed at a flickery 14' monitor in the newsroom were pretty bad).

And has Peter Griffin become a WSI forecaster? I've never seen him so don't know what he looks like, but a very Peter Griffin sounding person presents it sometimes. I can't ever remember seeing his name on the titles (unlike Kate Reeves, who always gets hers on there) at least if it's there it doesn't jump out at me.
