To have ITV2/3/4 without '1' looks ridiculous and will be seen as such by anyone with basic numeracy skills (although that's not necessarily ITV's target audience).

'Numeracy' refers to the ability to do basic mathematics.

Viewers aren't expected to add the numbers together, just recognise the channel.

So ITV1+1 isn't ITV2?

Good to see that computer design hasn't replaced everything.

And a bit about the rebrand :

"The next big project is a rebrand of the flagship channel which will see the numeral one dropped from our flagship channel. This is being created and managed internally and includes a new look and approach to all the services in the portfoliio, so no small task. ITV is an exciting place to be at the moment and although there is still lots of work to do to get it where we want to be, it feels like the ship is pointing the right way."

Sounds more and more like a new corporate logo is on the way.

Shall we start calling "Sky 1" "Sky Channel" again?

I'd rather call it Sky One or Sky Onc!

That's completely different. "sky one" rolls of the tongue like a ball on a ramp.

I think you'll find that a computer was used in the design of that. I'd say a computer may well have cut it out as well.

Also just to add, ITV2 launched when ITV was still using the regional names, so not only was there no ITV1 but there wasn't really an ITV either! It didn't affect it then and it certainly won't affect it now, and to be honest its arguing the toss over something so trivial.
STV and UTV had their own versions (S2 and TV You, later renamed UTV2). In 1999, all the other regions that weren't already dual branded became so with the launch of the hearts and Carlton star idents. Even before then, an ITV break bumper was already in use in some regions, along with the ITV brand on trailers.

ITV branded trailers have been going for decades, to be fair. I remember sometime in the late 1980's a trailer for the new winter (or autumn) season advertising Hannay, Poirot and a couple of other shows - and this was before the first "corporate" logo!

There were always "ITV" branded trailers and campaigns. Then Central's cake came along and all trailers seen on Central from 1985 on were Central trailers, made by Central or at least re-edited with Central logos etc on them.
This trend moved to all the companies so that even every trailer on Border was a "Border" trailer, not an ITV trailer.
A lot of duplicated work and, arguably, money pointlessly spent.
However, this was a time when most ITV companies were listed on the stock market separately. There was pride in the company and so on. And there was a lot more money sloshing around.
As soon as ITV companies started gobbling each other up, the situation reversed and ITV branding was once again in the ascendancy.

I'm nowhere near old enough, but I find it hard to believe that ITV branding was ever common on Granada pre-1985 or anytime before it bought Yorkshire-Tyne Tees. Likewise, TSW. Anglia too, always seemed somewhat 'ITV sceptic'.

I barely recall any ITV branding at all on Granada pre-1998. If it was a network programme it was "On Granada". If it was syndicated, it was also "On Granada". Shows shown in the Granada region only were "Only on Granada".

I was also brought up in Granadaland, and each season they would use whatever was the 'ITV brand' for trailers from the beginning of the 1980s.

These only ever lasted a few weeks, and I don't think were intended to be a corporate brand. TV Times used the same logo on programme listings whenever a new season started.
