If something is on ITV2, people will say ITV2. If something is on ITV3, they'll say ITV3. I'd like to think that viewers are intelligent enough to make the distinction, and it does still make sense to have ITV2-4 because ITV will be the main and first channel. Even now when people say something is on ITV then they go straight to ITV1. Noone is going to look for Corrie on ITV4 because it wasn't specified 'which' ITV it's on.

In the grand scheme of things, all they're doing is lobbing off the "1". Why would something like that send viewers into a confused tizzy? Why does it not "make sense" in this "multi channel world"? MTV cope just fine with their current set-up, as Pete noted a few posts above. I'm damn sure most people say "ITV" instead of "ITV1" anyway!
