ITV1 to be rebranded as ITV

ITV sounded stupid when they launched ITV2, which is why they rebranded the original channel.

You don't have ITV2/3/4 without an ITV1 - it's just illogical nonsense in a digital age: either give your channels a numeral or a name - not a corporate BLANK!

Perhaps they want to call it the 'ITV Channel', and we can all snigger at that in January 2013, and again when it reverts to ITV1 in 2015 after the departure of the muppet who suggested it.

I totally agree with you Stuart. Part of me feels that they are doing it for a different reason. Such as not being able to make a distinctive logo out of the numeral '1'. People may All it all different names, but in this multi ITV channel world, it doesn't make sense.

It's strange: my nephews seem to cope perfectly adequately with understanding Nick Jr and Nick Jr 2, and I'm sure I managed well enough for the three years when ITV and ITV2 happily co-existed.

These days, though, I'm utterly baffled by the lack of 4one to 4six when there's a 4seven. Is there a problem with my Sky setup? And goodness only knows what the relationship is between Sky channels 317 and 318, or between 410 and 411.

To be honest so do I, although would have been more preferable for regional name instead of ITV - but that will never happen again.

Yes, it is a little weird for them to suddenly drop the "1" at this late stage - but I really think some on the forum are going too far with the "people are going to be sooo confuzzled by this!"

It's an odd move, I agree there - but it's not a crisis. It definitely will not cause mass panic and confusion, and I'm sure most viewers won't really think that hard enough about it for it not to make sense to them. They'll still be able to distinguish between the channels easily.

Ridiculous.

If something is on ITV2, people will say ITV2. If something is on ITV3, they'll say ITV3. I'd like to think that viewers are intelligent enough to make the distinction, and it does still make sense to have ITV2-4 because ITV will be the main and first channel. Even now when people say something is on ITV then they go straight to ITV1. Noone is going to look for Corrie on ITV4 because it wasn't specified 'which' ITV it's on.
