Adding any sense of regional identity to the ITV brand would be absolutely pointless. ITV is not a regional broadcaster anymore, it is a national broadcaster that has regional news bulletins which they have stripped down to the bones and I think they would still like to get rid of if they could.
There is a tiny bit of regionality that could be done, location backdrops for idents and the end 'separator' for the ITV channel logos could have a picture like the 1989(?) logo had for the 'V'? Or even having regional announcers, would be a start?
How to explain what I mean... The channels are indeed very successful, however if ITV plc are trying to re-embrace the name ITV as the main network (with better programming) then maybe the other channels such as ITV2 should be rebranded.
You've not explained anything further than what you originally said. They are probably very happy with how those channels are doing.
I'd have the channel ITV re-embrace a hint of it's regionality too.
They want to make money, not please people on TV presentation forums.
I truly think they could make money by providing the right programming. However I don't see ITV producing the likes of the extremely popular Central Weekend Live these days so even increasing Non-News Regional programming via a 1/2 hour Regional Magazine programme would be an improvement. I also believe CRR should be amended (not scrapped though) to help ITV plc out with the cost of Regional TV too.
ITV must continue to be THE real competitor to the BBC, that includes some limited Regional Programming.

Regional announcers - I.e. each region doing their own announcements? That would cost far too much and would be difficult to implement nowadays as many studios/facilities have closed. The regional names are still shown in many regions via the local news - such as Granada Reports.
Keep ITV as a national network, nowadays, with a small regional variation - only addition I would do is implement a regional Current Affairs show on a Friday evening - thus moving Tonight to a Wednesday evening (as Monday already has Exposure and Tom Bradby's The Agenda) and have the late Thursday regional slot as weekly, and not monthly, and brought forward to 1035/1040.
And this is coming from a die-hard regional fan and wished it never had been abolished but it was and would cost a bomb to re-instate it - probably sending it near bankruptcy again.
I can't see ITV keeping its current corporate logo past January, especially if ITV1 is rebranding to simply ITV. Surely a lowercase logo looks well, funny?
Having said that, the letters ITV in lower or uppercase look quite odd.
I'd love to see some people good with typography who know about the letters ITV and what would look good. Interesting we've seen no mocks since the news of this rebrand.
ITV's logo is notoriously hard to get right; either it's uppercase and looks too serious/dated, or lowercase and looks too cheap.

And of the three the old stylised V logo looks the most modern, I think the others have aged horribly. They could do worse than do a modern version of that and it would be interesting to see the interpretation of different versions for 2,3 & 4. Perhaps give it a glassy look, like the sky logo.

That's a nice idea actually. I just read in the main ITV Discussion thread someone say the rebrand will launch on Mon 14th January and that the design is "garish" with cues from "London 2012"...
