No chance.
There'd be more sense to do so, because they introduced ITV1 because of all the channels and services they had in 2002 with ITV Digital. They've significantly reduced to just five channels, a news service and a website. But ITV1 isn't going to go away. I always thought ITV was better than ITV1, but ITV Is now the company, not a channel.
The only ITV-branded channels in 2002 were ITV1, ITV2 and the ITV Sports Channel.
But you're right to say ITV1 isn't going away. It is useful to distinguish between the channel and the company.
Interesting.
Wonder if ITV1 will rebrand back to ITV as part of the changes.
ITV1 has never really stuck.

Also, perhaps, because there is no "HTV News". Most of the franchise names live on in the News and/or Weather titles.
In Cardiff at least, I haven't heard anyone refer to ITV1 as HTV for a very long time. What was once one of the strongest regional brands very quickly died, probably due to the similarity between 'HTV' and 'ITV'.

I'm not subscribed to Broadcast so I usually google the URL of the link that is posted and click on the first response and there is the article, although today it doesn't seem to be allowing me to do so..

Well that's very interesting... It allowed me to view the article in full the first time I clicked the link, but not the second time...
anyway the article doesn't really shed much light on what is going on except for their intentions to drop the "1" from ITV1. To make a more consistent brand with the main ITV channel as a sort of "Mothership" channel to the other three.

:-(
So they spend nearly a decade pushing 'ITV 1' for now to drop the 1! At this rate, I'll soon be back to Anglia TV.

Personally think it's a bad move- I'm 20 my self and most of my friends actually say 'ITV1' not ITV and were all a bit to young to remember 'Tyne Tees' so since I was 10 it's been known as ITV1 so I usually refer to put ITV1 on not just ITV.
Give things time they'll settle in- wasn't BBC1 not always know as BBC1? Now I don't anyone who would say put BBC on.
