I would prefer that American programming be kept out of primetime on BBC1/ITV1 unless it is a co-production (e.g. Rome or Band of Brothers, and even they were first run on BBC2). Unfortenately I suspect this will be a regular feature for ITV now, especially with all the cuts and downsizing; sacrificing original commissions for jingoistic American pap.

A bit harsh, it wasn't that long ago that ITV (and the BBC) regularly had US imports in 'primetime'

To be honest, if it frees up money for better programmes elsewhere, and they show US programming instead of the low-grade populist stuff like the reality TV etc then I'd have to say it's a good idea.
On the other hand, from the way ITV has been heading of late it's more likely that they'll end up with the reality rubbish and replace the few decent programmes with US imports, thereby falling even closer to Sky 1.

It depends what this drama is like, and what ratings it is likely to attract. I know Abrams created Lost, but I was never a big fan of Alias, so don't know if I'll like this. Then again, nice to see ITV1 air this in a primetime slot. It could do well. There's no harm in the odd import, as long as they don;t start filling up their schedules with them every night, like Five.
