I spotted something like this last weekend during the daytime. Using the wall break bumper and original times Laughing

I couldn't get a cap of it as I was too slow, but make what you will of it's significance...

That is much more less-drab than the black and white colour scheme from early 2006.

Only occurred to me the other day (butprobably been discussed here lots of times before)..... what are ITV1's idents all about?

They're all very pretty and everything, but normally with such things even I can at least see vaguely what they are getting at. .

Anyone any idea?

You mean you missed the redbee media marketing blurb ?

The theme is 'Alive with colour' with the ITV1 yellow being used in 'visually arresting' ways, ie. the humming birds on market, the fish on lake, the petals on basketball and the pavement art in erm pavement art.

I thought the same thing. There's no theme, except for the same sloppy music on every one. Just random scenes with something yellow. Isn't the set of idents called alive with colour? The only colour prominant is yellow. Interesting.

They need to do something not copying other broadcasters, but something to stand out, Part of me thinks that they should bring back the celebs, at least you knew what they were about, the faces of ITV, even though the channel 5 first set were much more polished than either of ITV's.

Surely if ITV1 brought back the celebs they should do it in a way thats not tacky:

Great example of something done greatly using their stars well.

I've seen this a number of times and always forget to ask, but was this just created as a promo or did they use these in any other way, not as idents in particular, but were they ever used as seperate pieces?

I agree. There needs to be some sort of theme. I think the problem with the idents is that they aren't big enough. All we get is some very 'wishy-washy' music and whilst the graphics are superb, there's not really much there. They're not bold enough for my liking.

7 did use that promo as a ident, also they had shorter versions, and a generic one:

This was the refresh package they had in 2004 "Grunge" look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KjyNSDSQ40

Even that refresh is very polished. I never disliked the idea of using the faces of ITV, it was more the way that they did it, for example the ITV50 promo set at the party was fantastic. The only other problem is that they worked great in the autumn, but of course in the new year with new shows, they didn't have themed idents, the only trick would be to make sure that there's an ident for every major programme, or refresh every season. I'm not thinking daytime, just primetime, so that they can sell the programme through an ident.

I think the cleverest thing that ITV did was on that one saturday night where they introduced a programme using an ident containing a star from the following programme in the schedule.

As said, the music on the current set is wishy washy and yes they are visually impressive, its the music and the fact that they mean nothing and are used randomly like night used in the day and kite used at night.

I've always admired the 7 promos - the 2001 one is on YouTube too and is well done. The graphics look very nice at the start and end.

ITV1 could shake things up with presentation on a Saturday night and make it feel like we're invited for the whole evening. (I don't know if they still do the evening lineup trailers anymore - all I see is for individual programmes?) One good idea IMO would be to have Harry Hill on the TV Burp set introducing each programme in his own style instead of just an ident.
