yes Tyne Tees do have a metal fronted desk to go with the entirely new studio they have had for the past 3 weeks or so. Its quite an unusual studio to say the least....reminds me of a cross between my bathroom and Dr Who's tardis.
Erm, is transponder channels 2-x working for anyone? They're not for me although the othe two are fine. And I can't tune in 10832 anymore (not that it matters as I have them stored already)

No - they appear to either have a frozen picture, or none at all. Hopefully not a sign of things to come.
And it's nice to get back to watching UTV again...
The channels just have no picture/sound information -- the EPG is still there, and when you take out the Sky card it still asks for it. So the soft-encryption is still in place, they have not moved to anything harder.
They have just lost/shut down pictures for whatever reason. The fact that the others are still there is sign that there is just a fault.
C@t, yes there is a new studio, and I like it. It's grown on me, yes it's unusual but it has a style all of it's own. I don't think you could call it bland

Are there any pix of this anywhere, does anyone know?
I'm intrigued...

hmmm. im reading this out of interest (i havent got sky - although i might get it i all regions stay available) but i was pondering a couple of things:
with this system, does it mean there is now a cable running from belfast, newcastle, glasgow, birmingham, cardiff, jersey etc. all the way to london (or wherever the uplink is) - as i never imagined itv network could see what was going out in regions untill now
if i understand you right, during the news, coronation street etc, alot of all the transponder spaced is lumped together to get a good picture ... but during local shows, its split up (not quite as good picture) ... so what is stopping them adding a couple of optouts on too, would it significantly reduce quality?
as i say i dont have sky, and if what im saying sounds ridiculous, thats why
btw - i recommend central news (if only for the title sequence) as well worth a watch, the best itv regional news ive seen lately (ive seen htv, border & tyne tees recently)
I don't have Sky,but my Uncle has. Today I gave him the first 10832 frequency via MSN and he stored them-Can't wait till I visit them again!

AFAIK the pictures are carried via BT leased lines, cos I know these can go down from time to time. UTV get a nighttime feed from LNN which is carried via leased line.
I am not entirely sure how programmes are broadcast but I am pretty sure every region gets their own copy of the network shows rather than linking into a network feed (like the BBC do).
How would an ITV network stream operate anyway??? Channels like UTV and Scottish are seperate from the whole Carlton/Granada ITV1 group even though they show the same programmes.
Years ago I took a tour of Scottish Television's Edinburgh Studios. This was a renovated theatre called the Gateway (now restored to a theatre BTW).
I sat in the gallery and was speaking to the vision mixer. There was a 'colour bar' test signal showing on the Output monitor. He told me that they sent this signal 'down the line to ITV' (his words) and that ITV checked the quality of the signal
at all times
.
Perhaps (as I was jus' a teenager) I misunderstood, but it ocurred to me that Scottish Televison's output was fed to London (or wherever) and then fed back before transmission.
Could one of our forum technical boffins elaborate on this?

I'm not sure -- I do know that all ITV regions did keep in touch with the main ITV hub at all times, but I think that any STV production for the network was broadcast locally rather than being passed down and back again. You could quite clearly see this on TTTV for example on kids' programmes, where you could see the join where TT opted out of the CITV feed when a TT production was being shown (the local feed would typically be slightly ahead of the network one for obvious reasons).
BTW do we know if the Granada stations are back after the little crash we had last night? Oh, and I heard that Westcountry TV has gone off, back to the testcard. Another technical glitch I guess, this is only a test transmission. Anyone care to shed some light on the current state of play?
