Ooh good...somebody get capturing...The TV Room's Channel Idents are out of date (i.e. they're ITV not ITV1)

DSS works pretty well with soft encryption, and it *can* actually be used to restrict viewing of certain streams based on the post code. The streams also don't have to be fully encrypted. It's not that obvious how it works, and I won't try to explain - last time I tried to explain to people it just left them with a sore head
In any case, I as confident that we will be able to view all channels at launch, so I doubt DSS will be used for restriction purposes

Yes I think it is. If you try to effectively hard-switch two digital signals you are bound to get a small glitch. It can be minimised but it is still there. The process allows more channels to be crammed into a transponder, as most of the time the multiple channels are only one so you use less bandwidth. As I say though, I am fairly certain that this kind of switching is incompatible with hard encryption because when the stream changes the card will be thrown off because it's suddenly being reset and being asked for a new set of decryption information.

This type of distortion when entering and leaving an ad break can also be seen on Channel 4, although it is much less of a problem - is this the same system?

So does this mean all the regions are online for the foreseeable future? No ditching it in a week or so?
