theres some dodgy square pattern, 16 squares and one is missing, i think this is to show which region it is, as the first is missing for carlton and they are 1-1 in the list.

Excellent stuff. I *knew* today was going to be the day, my friend who used to work for ntl was hinting on Friday.
When I got up this morning at 6am (I start work at 7:30am
), all the streams were FTV - that sort of confirmed that today was indeed going to be the day!
I am also pretty confident that all the itv1 regions will be broadcast FTV when they officially launch.
As for the streams being pulled tonight..... well I don't think they will be - itv1 is launching very soon, probably in 2 weeks time. We WILL see streams come and go for small periods of time as they build up to the full service, but we will always have something to watch on one of the other streams

Well the distortions in the ad-breaks coupled with the astoundingly good picture I've heard is present seems to back what you are saying up. I think the distortions are the DSS switching kicking in, so the network programmes are sent out as one stream and ads are split up. This could also explain the high quality picture -- programmes effectively have the whole transponder bandwidth to themselves!!!
Now if this is the case, I can't see how they can encrypt the whole thing to stop viewers receiving other regions. And I also can't see any other reason why the distortion would be present....

I jumped aabout 10 feet in the air when I saw ads on Carlton London!
: A glimmer of light in an otherwise crappy day (back at school after my broken leg
Watching STV I noticed the picture freezes just before the break so you don't see a break-bumper
I this just interference or does it switch so you get your own ads?

Yes, thats right Jason. I haven't been watching long enough to decide whether DSS is being employed (just got back from work), but what you said about the distortion during ad-breaks is correct. That is typical of test transmissions where DSS is being used.
