Can we assume there has been a cockup?

Or is it likely that there is somebody actually using the tests to test something at 12.50am on a Sunday morning?

It might be the best we are going to get, but it doesn't make it good. I say good on you to UTV and SMG for sticking their fingers up at ITV. Long may it continue!!!

Carlton and Granada are evil corporate conglomerates who have taken good, well-run companies (YTV included pre-1993) and turned them into shells.

Yes, the TTTV name will eventually disappear, but until then a bit of consistency would not go amiss. Maybe the new 2002 ITV1 look may improve things a bit, but as you say it is likely to go even further the other way.

And UTV may be amateurish, but they are indeed a long, long way better as companies than any Carlton or Granada one. I was going to say the same of SMG, but they seem to have ruined Grampian Television in the same way, unfortunately. In fact from what I've seen, apart from their high-quality branding Grampian are in a far worse state than the GMG North stations...

I think SMG have done well, because although people could complain that they've taken away logos, and combined two looks. They are two very nice looks that are highly appropriate for either of them and of course have retained the regional names. Three cheers for SMG. Oh and I think UTV's current ident are great, plenty of variations and nice animation. Bit of course all of this is mostly thro' caps on the tv room and havn't seen them because i'm not lucky enough to have sky Sad .

Watching BORDER again...

After 'Soccer Sunday' which was made by Granada it was 6.10pm and time for a quick news bulletin

Some regions such as Yorkshire has a 15 minute bulletin on Sunday teatimes but Granada and Border only have a 5 minute bulletin.

After Soccer Sunday, Granada's news came on straight away, but on Border we had a Children's Birthday slot followed by a CITV advert!

At about 6.12pm, Border News then came on with its overly long opening titles, Lee McKenzie presented it again!

She has presented Friday's Lookaround, the late Border News, plus yesterday's Border News, have they only got 2 presenters?!

The Border News then went right up to the start of the ITV News.

On Yorkshire and Tyne Tees , Jo Blythe was doing the weather forecasts simultaniously again!.

Finally, I don't like the way Central News only show their opening titles on the studio plasma screen.

I also watched Border this afternoon, the Scottish version had announcements from that guy who does the regional trailor voice overs for Granada North stations, the same obviously recorded one every time saying something like 'serving the whole region, you`re with Border'.

Watched Meridian and Anglia also and I must say they are both very regional still with good presentation.

Both YTV's and TTTV's weather broadcasts are pre-recorded -- all of them (except for Bob Johnson's one within NE Tonight weekdays, which is done live from the studio). Hence the reason why the YTV weather presenter was seen simultaneously on 2 stations, and heard at the same time on a third (Granada).

Speaking of this afternoon, TTTV broadcast a total of 2 hours 20 minutes of regional programming. However the one shown at 2.05 was also shown on Border, Yorkshire and Granada, and the 5.00 one was also shown by Yorkshire and Granada, Border had their own programme but showed the 5.00 TTTV programme at 12.30 when TTTV had a news review programme on.

Which leads me to the question; what are these other companies doing with their regional commitments? Surely these TTTV productions, filmed exclusively in the North East, do not count as NW regional programming?

I saw It's your Shout in Leicester on Carlton Central, but my favourite was Pulling Power Mortorbike special from Birmingham, that was brilliant, however I noticed that none of the Granada regions showed it, so if I didn't know about these tests, I would have never watched it!

Good news: The squares ' DOG' has gone from all channels! Finally can get clean captures!

Bad news: 10832 - the Carlton transponder is currently only broadcasting sound Sad And I wanted to record Sunrise tonight!

Cheers, Asa
