It was nice to hear LWT at 5.30pm 'Another weekend is upon us which means it's LWT across the best days of the week!'

Just about to flick over to UTV....

Cheers, Asa

On average it seems that the Granada Regions have longer idents than Carlton/LWT do.

There are some exceptions though.

The reason for Carlton/LWT's shorter idents is probably as a result of them using 'Coming Up' slides before the break

I didn't get change to see the IVC, but...

The ident at 23:30 hours froze for about 5 seconds static at the end, without any announcements at all.

Plus the UTV Weather forecast was a bit bulky with 3 different ends, The silent summary chart, sponsor bit, then a UTV Weatherline bit.

Obviously a lot better than what we get on the Granada channels.
IVC may be good, but no announcers for half the remaining time is bad:shock:

Rather have no annoucement at all than 'ITV1'.

In any case if all the announcer tells you is what is on in 3 seconds, then it's meaningless anyway.

I think UTV have the right trade-off. They could either kill IVC or make the whole thing part time. They chose the latter.

Announcements have 3 functions; to brand the station, to inform and to attract the viewer. IMHO YTV fails on all 3 counts. They don't tell you what is on next most of the time, they don't brand consistently, and they don't attract the viewer because there is no feeling put into it.

So what if UTV are a bit amateurish in places. At least they try! And they are brave enough to opt out of the network at prime time to put out their own programming.

Well like it or not, ITV1 is the name of the network.
Plus 'Tyne Tees' is the name of the region,
So to get a good balance, they use both names at various times.

Plus, I rarely see an announcement on YTV that only tells you whats coming up now.
Most of the time they tell you, later in the evening, in half an hour, over on ITV2, or on the ITV Sport Channel.

90% of them out of primetime are like this.

On the other ITV channels yes. But this is only a recent thing, and is only done for advertising purposes for the ITV Digital service.

Mentioning later programmes (which I must say I don't see much of) is something which thankfully does seem to be a positive aspect of the suspension of full idents, giving the announcer more time to talk. Of course, this time last year, things were very different. And I am still left wondering what's on next when a programme finishes, because no-one ever bothers to tell me.

Surely, it wouldn't be too much trouble for Leeds to just put up some sort of graphic and let the announcer talk over it to let me know what is coming on?

the things said about utv sound to me like central. although the name was changed and there have been cut backs lately - IMO central's continuity remains friendly, proffesional and probably one of the best in the network. im still not too keen on hearing whats coming up next on the ITV Sports Channel/ITV2 during an announcement - i like the way Channel 4 promote FilmFour :-
>a caption with FilmFour on
>the name of programme being reffered to
>the time its on
>and the number to call to subscribe
its all much clearer - plus peole can write down the number to call to subscribe (which they cant if theyre looking at an itv ident)

thankfully central arent cross promoting very often - anyone remember when central (and other itv stations) used to tell you what was comng on over on channel 4 lol!

btw - central still use menus (now with pictures on the right of the screen), usually used before or after the lunchtime news - and theres usually a nice announcement too 'hello and welcome to carlton - your afternoon of entertainment starts at ten past one with shortland street, followed at 1.40 by the biggest load of shiite in town, then at .....' (get the picture?)

Wow, the LWT ident is ace, it's hard to believe that LWT is a Granada company!

So it seems that all the GMG regions that are in the north have to suffer the dreadful continuity from Leeds!

Tyne Tees' Crimestoppers is still using the music which YTV used to use 7 years ago!

I think that music used to be on every region's crime programme a while back.

Anyone remember Police 5?

And YTV is still using the Community Link sting that TTTV introduced 8 years ago... your point being?
