There's a bit of confusion here. There are two YTV weather people on-duty because Bob Johnson at Tyne Tees is off this week, he'll be back soon enough. Normally there is just the one, doing an in-vision report on YTV and out-of-vision one on Granada.

The TTTV/Granada ones this week are in the YTV studio (at least they are not in Newcastle because when Bob is there he is in-vision for the pre-programme weather forecast, then in the studio during the programme (I'm pretty sure the only reason TTTV does 2 weather forecasts is to have the banter between Bob and Mike at the end of the programme!!) whereas the YTV presenters always appear on the monitor in the studio. It is not clear whether these Leeds forecasts within the programme are live or not, I suspect not because Mike quite frequently cracks a joke and the Leeds presenter reacts as if nothing has happened. The (very live) end-of-programme forecasts with Bob usually end in the two of them laughing uncontrollably and the end of the programme being messed up!!

YTV forecasters also do the TTTV forecast at weekends, to give Bob a couple of days off Wink

Why not just have four weather presenters? One for each station and one for all stations at the weekend - then they could prerecord all weekend bulletins. Sorry, nearly forget, we're dealing with Leeds. That would be too simple for them.

I suppose theres nothing stopping one forecaster from doing all three, if they pre-recorded 1 or 2 of them.
Has Granada Weather always been out of vision?

Are other regions' weather done out of vision?

Yes that is fair enough, as long as they don't get rid of our Bob!!! Smile

I'm not aware of any other regions doing weather out-of-vision. UTV's is during the short bulletins though.

Granada used to have that Fred bloke from This Morning on Granada Tonight, but wasn't strictly in-vision -- the actual map was shown on it's own. All other forecasts have been out-of-vision as far back as I can remember on Granada.

The point is that they already do!!!! At weekends anyway. The only reason Granada use the YTV weather forecasters at all is because it's that or the continuity announcer gets to do it (as used to happen), and Leeds have decided it's easier to get the duty weather person to do the voice-over instead. Which is sensible because she's already there in the studio.

Tyne Tees is a totally different story. They have their own presenter, who just happens not to work at the weekend. They also just used to use the announcer at weekends, and again Leeds have decided it's easier to use the weather presenter at weekends, and as the TTTV weather map is designed to be used in-vision they might as well do the forecast that way!!

Border does seem to still retain some of it's continuity functions. They use their newsreader as an announcer, for trailers, a menu screen before Lookaround, and their own weather. Not sure why!

You are putting the SR (22.0) and FEC (5/6) in right? (for Mad Andy B)

Yes - I can get UTV and the Scottish regions on 10.906 GHz (which use the same SR and FEC) but not these which use the horizontal polarity.

Meridian has presenters for the South-East and South. Carl Tyler presents South and Thames Valley and Gemma Humphries does the South-East. They are all studio based during Meridian Tonight.

Channel uses different presenters from the Jersey Met Office but usually has Julie Smith.

Dave - Jersey

Talking of weather force 8 gales, hail and heavy rain here in Jersey and very cold.............thats all from me back to the studio !

So does Carl Tyler do weather in one 'Ridi studio, then hop in his transport to the other studio, and do the weather there? Or wot?
Or... maybe he was cloned? Razz:

Carl does the weather in the studio for Southampton and records the Thames Valley version (they link to the weather through a plasma screen)

Switch over to UTV. Julian Simmons with in-vision continuity.

See how real continuity is done, not this anonymous garbage we're subjected to in the North from Leeds.

Meanwhile, over on Granada, YTV, Tyne Tees and Border;

'Now on ITV1 Emmerdale'
