Out of interest, where are all regional TV stations located in comparison to the city in which they're based? Granada and BBC NW are very close to the main areas of Manchester - hence pictures out of Manchester always come through more quickly than most other regions. I know HTV Wales is just outside Cardiff, and not exactly in a prime city location. Granada and BBC NW just seemed to be unusually close to the busiest areas of the city.

BBC Northern Ireland is just up the street from back of the City Hall which is the centre of Belfast. You really couldn't get much closer.

UTV is in Havelock House on Ormeau Road which is only about 500 yards up the road from BBC Northern Ireland, so it's pretty central as well. UTV also have offices in Bruce Street which is beside the BBC and closer to the city centre than Havelock House but no broadcasts come from there. UTV run their own ISP from that office. http://www.utvinternet.com offering unmetered internet access to Northern Ireland. Very Happy

In the west... HTV (West) is located in an area called Brislington, South Bristol, which is about 3 miles from the centre and the BBC Studios are based about 2 miles from the centre in place called Clifton.

The BBC Points West newsdesk background has Bristol Docks with the City Centre in the far distance which comes from the BBC Bristol Online Webcam.

And now the weather...

Tyne Tees is about a 10 minute walk from the Newcastle train station, and a short walk from the north bank of the River Tyne, near the Millenium Bridge.

Their Teesside studios though are well outside Middlesbrough, out of the way in a business part in the outskirts of Billingham. They used to be based on Corporation Road in Middlesbrough though, which is opposite the council buildings right in the centre of town.

Anglia are in Norwich city centre, near the market square.

YTV are within walking distance of the city centre, I don't think it's that far but others seem to. It's certainly not actually in the centre of town (unlike TTTV and Anglia) but it's fairly central.

It's just dawned on me that I don't actually know where BBC Newcastle is!!

BBC Newcastle is up on the town moor, somewhere along Barrack Road.

Its a pitty the ITV SKY tests are about 5 seconds behind, You can't compare them with terrestrial properly!.

Is Granada Reports done with one or two presenters? Tonight Lucy Meacock did it on her own.
(GR started about 20 seconds after Calendar by the way!)

Debbie Lindley 'read' the Granada Weather, even though Jo Blythe did the YTV Weather.

BBC Newcastle is on Barrack Road, out in Fenham, not very far from the City Centre. They refer to it as the Pink Palace.

Granada Reports is usually double-headed presenters, but for the past week and a half (I think) they have been using a single presenter. Strange, because Rob McGloculn presented yesterday, and Lucy today, so why is it single?

Satellite has always had a few second lag on the transmission compared to analogue terrestrial. Even DTT is about a second behind.

Hate to be a pest, but can we forget about the location of studios and get this thread back on-topic? There's many of us here who dont have Dsat, and I was rather enjoying hearing your views on all the other region's presentation quirks.

Cheers all.

I've wondered that about Granada Reports. When it was still Granada Tonight, if one presenter was off either James Cooper or Anne O'Connor would fill in (or lovely lovely Rachel Harrison when she was still there), so maybe they're trying to cut down on costs? I certainly wouldn't put it past Granada.

Is Scottish actually broadcasting? I seem to be getting Grampian promos on both 3-1 and 3-2! There also seems to be interferance in vision going from ident to network programme.

Yes but the ITV delay is particularly large!

I was trying to see the 'staggered start times' on YTV, GRA, TTTV at 6pm tonight, and by the time I'd checked YTV and GRA, TTTV had also started!

Hmm. I watched YTV yesterday and switched over to see the start of TTTV - probably because both programmes don't start dead on 6 anyway!

Cheers, Asa
