There is one obvious mistake with that, shouldn't it be ITV1 ?

It should really! I created it a few months back and only just realised I had it - it also shows the old looking Sky EPG design.

Oh? How's it changed then?

The look of it is mainly the change to darker blue bands at the top and bottom.

Will there be a generic ident for all regions ?
(perhaps with the exception of STV & UTV)

Why not rebrand the proper regions as ITV1 Wales ITV1 Scotland etc just like the beeb - this surely makes much more sense and totally get rid of these stupid bizarre names that are now redundant and meaningless?!?!?!

Granada - whan on earth is it and does it mean?
Carlton - ditto - i could go on but people coming into out country from abroad and watching the tv output cant beleive how many different names the SAME channel has throughout the country - it is very confusing nearly as confusing as the browse function on the ondigital box!

It would be nice but, the names 'Granada, Carlton, Ulster Television' are people who run ITV, that is their company, working for an intangble name. People work for Granada, or Carlton or whoever, and Granada or Carlton works for the ITV Association.

Saying what you are saying, we should get rid of the Daily Mirror, Welsh Mirror and Daily Record all for one brand. 'UK Newspaper' or something like that. That is what these ITV companies want to do, but how far would they go to destroy their own brand, which in the case of Granada took 45 years to build up.

They don't say ITV 1 at all.
We still get 'and now on ITV...' and 'From ITN, the ITV News with......'

Well I've heard an announcer say 'And now on ITV1'.

Yes I have heard them as well on ITV Nightime when ITV Digital was released he said Now on ITV 1 CD UK (can't remeber the programme though)

as for Granada & Carlton

Granada was named after a cinema chain in the UK which was named afdter a foriegn place called Grenada

Carlton according to planet bods stands for (you'll laugh) Calling All Real Londoners Turn Over Now.Razz:

I'm sure one of our American correspondents on the forum can give more detailed information, but I'm reasonably sure that when you go to the States, you don't watch CBS, ABC, NBC as such, but the local affiliates.

For example in Chicago you watch 'WBBM 2 Chicago' for CBS programmes and in Atlanta you have 'WSB-TV 2 Action News' for ABC programmes whereas in Salt Lake City to get NBC's output you turn to 'KSL-TV 5'! Even in New York it's 'WABC-TV 7 New York'.

Now I'm sure all that malarkey can be confusing!

Yeah also with USA why do they call their radio stations KKBL or QXYZ instead of name like BBC Radio 1 Capital FM Or Virgin Radio which is much easier:D

Yes and no. Recently, most of the network-owned stations have been network-branded - ABC7 in New York or CBS2 in Chicago, for example. And the networks have been trying to pressure the independently-owned affiliates into following suit - FOX and some smaller networks have been the most successful in this - but several locally-branded stations remain.

On the other hand, there's Canada, where ten years ago most stations had individual identities - and where now, in most places, there's just network identities.

Yes -- I'd noted that about the rebranding of the US stations when trying to dig up some of the old style name! I kept getting the new-style 'ABC- number ' type names.

They sound more like the old Australian names for their stations such as (in Melbourne) ABV2 (ABC), ATV10 (Ten), GTV9 (Nine) and HSV7 (go on -- guess Smile )

Sorry to everyone wanting to read stuff about ITV1 -- I got a bit sidetracked!
