They probably will as I assume LWT will still come from London and not Leeds. However the Leeds stations..well I doubt names will be used at all except before regional progs.
Anyway dont read too much into this I`m not convinced its true yet

I seem to remember someone saying before that itv were thinking of renaming all of the regions to the actual region (BBC style) so Carlton would be itv1 london etc. Whether this is true or not I don't know. But if it is this would also mean renaming most of the regional news programmes.

The source possibly feels that he has already given too much information away, and if he works for Granada then he better be careful. I do think there is truth in all of this, it just all fits together too well.... continuity mistakes at Leeds, generic xmas ident etc etc. Wait and see.
Plausible is a word which sadly comes to mind. First the generic endcaps, the Christmas ident (and I said there was nothing to worry about having a generic Xmas ident for a few days! Pha!) and then what seems to be one boring generic ident... All very sad indeed.
Wonder how much ITV marketing director Jim Hytner got for dreaming up this idea? Someone should explain the differences between C5 and ITV in terms of regionality. I can just see it now 'I know a sure fire way to make people realise what channel they're watching! Let's remove all local branding from our idents!'
RIP Granada, Meridian, Anglia, Tyne Tees, Border...
as well as Yorkshire and LWT (can you really believe they gave in??)
Considering LWT is only shown for two days compared with 5 day Carlton, I really can't believe they agreed to hand in their identity - regardless of how hard they didn't want to. If this is all true, then their lack of introducing the Xmas ident just showed how resilient they are.
And I still bet they do nothing with the Meridian Tonight set...
B/stard, charles allan came onto lookaround the day Granada officially bought Border and said that Border
WILL
not lose its regional identity.
Funnily enough Border are still using thier own End Cap at the end of Lookaround and the Border News and haven't incorporated the purple look and no Gr/n/da in sight.

This new stronger brand will put the identity back into shape. And in 5 years you'll get used to it and love it.
Let's nip down to Ladbrookes and put a bet on that shall we Billy?
And what identity are we talking about here? 'ITV1'? What kind of identity is that for 15 regional channels? There's strengthening a brand and diluting regionality and I know which they're doing. Do we genuinely think Granada, Yorkshire et all will live on for much longer after this?
Anyway, you're in the Carlton region so won't be inflicted for 5/7th of the week

What about the weekend?
EDIT: Haha, I see you edited your post, Asa

And you're all making out that you're so surprised?
Why?
GMG have been working towards this for god knows how long. The little 'GR/N/D/' on the bottom of the end caps and a whole corporate look to them was enough to make me twig something was up. Then there came Anglia and Meridian et al both calling themselves Granada TV Norwich and Granada TV Southampton etc.
Then the final nail in the coffin, generic - totally generic - Xmas idents.
I'd still be very surprised if we didn't see any sort of regional identity on the idents. I think it's more a case that we'll see a flip around from the hearts idents, i.e. big ITV1 logo and small local station logo.
UTV on the other hand would need a substancial amount of cash before they get taken over.
Unless of course with UTV being NI's most successful internet provider, it could only be a matter of time before Carlton or someone else sees it as a golden opportunity and they then have to contribute to my pockets

Mr Videowall
Some reasons I think LWT will NOT give in:
a) As Asa says, they are only on 2 days a week
b) They have not shown the generic Xmas ident
c) LWT told me in an email that 'we have no plans to axe the videowall until the 2nd quarter of 2002'
d) (This one is GMG in general) 'Regional ITV1 - it's the business' - slightly hypocritical don't you think?
e) (Again, GMG in general) - The 'advertising advertising' ads also mention the region name - not just 'Granada Television' - well okay, they do in the Granada region, but that's acceptable - for obvious reasons
