ITV's never been the same since Thames left. Though who of us would have thought that in 1993 that Carlton would be the closest thing ITV would have to a saviour?

I think we can all safely say that the wrong company lost their franchise in 1991, the only reason Granada survived was because Thames lost and the ITC couldn't afford to have two majors leave.

Thames should have survived and Granada left - they would never have allowed this destruction of regionalism.

Still when the viewing figures continue to plummet and the revenue dries up they may have a change of heart.

Now add the itv.com and a dodgy-looking purple GR/N/DA, and you've probably got it spot on

I sincerely hope so - for the sake of the (smaller) GMG franchises.

If this is true then I wonder why Carlton are not using a generic ident, after all they with Granada are after a national network

Will the announcer still say 'this is LWT' etc?

Whether the news is true or not, Carlton are taking their time, and I think they WANT the Carlton brand to remain on screen for as long as possible.

They probably will as I assume LWT will still come from London and not Leeds. However the Leeds stations..well I doubt names will be used at all except before regional progs.

Do you know something, I am damn sure I have already seen this new itv1 generic on Tyne Tees by mistake a few nights ago. Thinking about it, it was similar to the xmas ident, just with a different colour scheme. I don't recall seeying any Granada logo on it though. Now I thought it was just my imagination at the time, and I wasn't really paying attention, but I am convinced I've seen it. At first I thought it was at the end of a trailer, but it was playing the hearts theme music and there was no announcer.

The 6th of January will be a very sad day for ITV1 regions. Hopefully after time a lot of regions will revert back, LWT probably being the most likely at first as they have done in the past. So we might only see our regions name on the regional news. This is terrible, what is at the moment, first BBC TWO is recked and now ITV regions! Whatever next?

Remember that Anglia and Meridian will also come from Leeds - but then doesn't that affect HTV West continuity as well?

As I say, the source (CraigV) made his first post on this subject, and has since vanished. He did sound convincing and knew his stuff, but I think we'll just have to wait and see until after Christmas
