Apparent launch date is on 6 January 2002. Apparently, the Hearts will have their final airings after the new year when the Christmas ident is dropped. So it seems the Christmas generic was a test run for standard ITV1 identification.

This is a SAD time in GMG regions... Sad

I like the generic look, but to remove the regional identities im not sure. I dont know till I see. I knew that this day would always come to ITV1, and also talks of a merger between Granada and Carlton, hardley no regional identites left across the ITV1 Network except for regional news programmes.

Have a good Christmas Eve and a even better Christmas Day!

I think that some regions will bring back identity soon - (sorry, I know I keep going back to this, but..) LWT tried the generic look, and reverted...

Who knows, give them a chance to see the light and revert back Wink

This could be a wind up you know. However there seem to be too many coincidences in what has been said and I can honestly see Leeds using a generic ident in the future

Yes, but I reckon Granada has tightened their grip on on the regions. At least before LWT had a chance to revert - but according to CraigV, Granada actually forced them to take the generic look in January. Sad

Now I'm going to be critical. Where's the source gone? Can we really trust CraigV if he made his first post to say this was going to happen - and now he's gone?

thanks to some execs at Granada, and the designers in Leeds, we will be getting ITV1 in 2/3rds of England!

Thinking about it, regions like Anglia will essentially cease to exist.

On a business level, they have been swallowed by Granada. Anglia's name would probably be wiped like Central and Westcounty were.

In terms of on-screen identity, there will be NO Anglia - just ITV1 and possibly GR/N/DA.

So now in Britain, we have no regions practically. GMG, Carlton and SMG. That is it. I can't believe it! I know it was like this before, but introducing generic idents across the board is an all-time low...

It's ironic really, that when GMG bought out UNM, HTV viewers on this forum were praying that GMG wouldn't sell HTV to Carlton, as they feared that the HTV brand would disappear.

Now the HTV brand sits nicely with a Carltonised ident whereas Granada regions will have a horrible generic ITV1 'effort' from Leeds!
