I just wish that once they become financially stable again that we see a reincarnation of the BBC "Two" incident in which they realise how bland their presentation is and bring in a set of new, extraordinary idents and find that ITV becomes great again. One can only dream...

If I had to take a guess, I'd predict we'll not see something majorly new until sometime next year now (if there is a refresh in the interim, it would probably be something minor akin to the BBC's hacking of their pres... and probably only because the BBC have hacked at the pres and broadcasters always follow each other 
). I know the last full corporate rebrand in 2005/2006 was called something like 'Brand 2010', so it seems like a good indicator of how long they were targeting the overall corporate rebrand to last (ie something to take us into 2010). Next year is probably also less sensitive for a rebrand in respect of some of the big cuts that have been made in 2009 (News programmes, Leeds studios etc).

Whilst there is some truth in what you say, in that the programmes need to be the priority, good presentation can make a difference. As has been mentioned on here many times, BBC2 saw a boost in its audience in the early 90s when it ditched the 'TWO' idents in favour of the original Lambie-Nairn 2's.
Currently ITV1's idents just seem a bit bland, limp and nothingy. Before the logo appears, they could just as easily be adverts for Tampax. They really need something a bit more distinctive and with some impact IMO.
Hardly anyone in the real world cares what these channels look like, they tune in for programmes. It's only a minute section of society which occupy the likes of Digital Spy that give a jot about whether the ITV1 logo should be raised or lowered.

I quite like RTP's pres in Portugal - the jingle is used on everything and you instantly know you are watching RTP1 even if you are not looking at the screen - oh and the jingle really, really gets in your head!

They are by far the longest running idents since national ITV1 began, and if they are still in use by the end of this year (which is likely) they will even beat the length of time the hearts were in use

I've never had a huge problem with these idents - certainly better than the last lot, it's just the inconsistency with the logo which annoys me a bit, but not much really.

Bring back the old ATV eyes as the main ITV logo and even use as the ITV1 logo
I think it's a case of it being bad idents which get noticed by the wider public. In many ways, a good ident is something that isn't particularly noticed, if you know what I mean.

As nice as a new set of idents would be for ITV1, I think they need to get their programmes sorted out first.
I think ITV1s idents are really dull. they don't do anything for the channel at all. They are limp and bland. The tune also gets right on my nerves. They couldn't have picked a more annoying tune!

I still think that the January 2006 idents were superior due to the whole different emotions, the thing that let them down was that they were simply the logo over pieces of film that could have been for anything, if the logo had been intergrated they may have worked better. I did like the two special ident sets during this stage, the I'm A Celeb ones where the jungle creatures and plants wrapped around the logo, and the ones where a lot of effort was put in, the dinosaur ones for prehistoric park (with Nigel Marvin) which made the at the time idents a bit different & interesting. I can't seem to find examples of either anywhere though. Hopefully it isn't just my mind playing up on me.
As for the current idents, I know that the music differs slightly for each ident, but it would be nice to make them all completely different pieces, but tying together.
