Is ITV1 going to get a new look?

I couldn't stand another season of the X Factor being introduced by these dreary dead idents. They must be planning something surley?

Its hard to believe the nations most watched commercial entertainment channel has idents like these and has no jingle to them whatsoever!

They need to go back to CGI and get a jingle that stands out and looks and sounds like an entertainment channel rather than this fairy land presentation style.

I don't think Tbh that they can afford it - surely they should use it for programmes. I know the arguement will be tht they have to have good looking presentation ect and that it will give them a better reputation , but its programmes people tune in for - not idents and jingles. Very Happy

Why are people so fasinated by new looks, and expect one every few months.

ITV as cash strapped as they are should put money into programmes. At the end of the day they can have truly crap presentation but if the shows are there it would be a thriving network. The other way, not really.

I admit I'm not a fan of the present package, however they should focus on trying to improve their programming instead of changing their presentation every 5 minutes. And especially during this credit crunch and ITV financial woes.

It's an essential investment surely given that television is a visual medium and there are hundreds of multi channel stations out there, you have to get yourself and your content noticed.

Anyway it didn't stop them going ahead with that 'Brighter Side' promo which now appears to have died a death.

i know i'm contridciting myself but I was actaully thinking the same thing - for how much that cost, a couple of idents could have been made!!

None of those multi channel stations stopped Britain's Got Talent delivering up to 20 million for ITV.

Hardly anyone in the real world cares what these channels look like, they tune in for programmes. It's only a minute section of society which occupy the likes of Digital Spy that give a jot about whether the ITV1 logo should be raised or lowered.

Sadly, the broadcasters agree with your view. Style over substance.

So you don't think they'd care if the ITV1 ident consisted of nothing more than a static ITV1 logo on a plain white or black background, with no music?

Of course people care. They just don't talk about it, that's all. And why would they?

The current ITV1 idents are the best they've had over the last 10 years, in my view. They're a bit nondescript, sometimes surreal (that one where the camera looks down the side of a building is a very odd) and tend to just dawdle along really, but I think they'll do for now. On the positive side they're very gentle and relaxing.

In the future when ITV has more cash to spare, I hope they'll make an entertaining and fun presentation package that reflects the fact that ITV1 is still the home of family entertainment. I'm thinking along the lines of the BBC1 fairground junctions from the mid-nineties, for example. I reckon that kind of presentation style would really suit ITV1.

I'd say people subliminally notice and it does make an impact. To say they care is putting too strongly in my opinion.

I don't think the current ITV 1 logo and idents are up to scratch, they certainly don't sell me the brand like an ident should. They're kinda dull, miserable and forgettable, which isn't on for what's essentially a light entertainment network.

I've never had a huge problem with these idents - certainly better than the last lot, it's just the inconsistency with the logo which annoys me a bit, but not much really.

These are probably the longest running idents "ITV1" have had though, considering during the celebrity era they changed them pretty much annually.

Offtopic a bit, but I noticed while on holiday last week a slide on ITV1 South West that omitted the 1 bit - it was just "ITV" in a yellow square, otherwise it was a normal static programme promotion slide.
